Turn 18: The Destruction Mage Nearly Dies If it's not stuck in the ground, cut the demon to ribbons the normal way.
[6+2] vs [5] You dispatch the demon in the traditional manner. Decapitation is pretty traditional, right?
+2 SwordsmanI drop on the ground and do a barrel roll to put out the fires.
[5][Luck 1] You expertly smother the flames with yourself. [3] You scream like a woman, rather than a little girl, from the pain of massive burns.
Fire damage taken, now Heavily Wounded. Now suffering from Serious Burns+1 Pain ToleranceI grab water from the ground under the demons until I can make it spike up as ice.
[6][Luck 2] You attempt to summon a massive ice spike from the ground... but there's hardly any moisture in this earth. Apparently the scorched red look isn't just for show.
Move forward, encase my fist in stone, and pummel the demon with it
[6+2][Luck 5] You encase your entire arms in stone, including massive spiky pauldrons. The rock moves with you fluidly, not hindering your actions. A second demon appears from behind a rock. [2] vs [4] You miss it, but its counterattack only scratches your new armor.
+3 Earth MagicNew Spell: StonefistSummon a flurry of rapidly moving crystal shards, aimed at a demon
[3+3][Luck 1] You summon a supernova of razor-sharp crystals. Er, wait-
Demon 1: [2] vs [2]. It suffers minor wounds.
Demon 2: [4] vs [1]. It's shredded by crystals.
Demon slain.Seymore: [6] vs [2]. You're ravaged by your own summon.
Damage taken, now Moderately WoundedNathan: [1] vs [1]. Nathan just sort of cowers, but no crystals hit him.
Sargoth: [2] vs [2]. Sargoth sort of stumbles out of the way.
Ochita: [6] vs [1]. Ochita is savaged by a barrage of crystals.
Ochita takes heavy damage, now Moderately WoundedFre: [3] vs [5]. Fre expertly dodges crystal death.
Tarran: [1] vs [4+1]. Tarran flips over a crystal, since sidestepping doesn't look as cool.
+2 SummoningStop casting lightning spells and destroy some demon.
[5+2] vs [5] You cut the injured one down the middle. The other doesn't learn anything.
+2 PolearmsDemon: [2] vs [5+1] You wryly thank the demon for doing all the work for you. It's probably too busy being halved to hear you.
Cure light wounds on Nathan
[2+1][Luck 4] You put a weak but balanced healing spell to work on Nathan, healing some of his wounds. He remains badly burnt, however.
+2 RestorationNathan receives healing, is now Moderately Wounded.Feeling better now.A single demon still menaces the main party, but you should decide what to do after it's slain. The crystal nova also isn't really a repeatable event, at least as a level 1 spell. In an effort to give players more useful information, I feel I should explain spell levels a bit better:
Level One spells are relatively basic. As you've seen, they can inflict horrible damage and achieve wondrous effects, but they're still generally the sorts of things you could do in a mundane fashion, it'd just be harder and more reliable.
Level Two spells are generally just powered-up versions of level one spells- they're more impressive, accurate, or what have you, but they're generally the sort of things you'd do with a level one spell but better in some way.
Level Three spells are the sorts of things where a peasant watching knows he shouldn't be anywhere near this madness. maxicaxi's unfortunate blunder was a level three spell- if successful, it would have sealed the target into an extradimensional space for later use. Which it did. Sort of.
Level Four spells are the sorts of things that tend to kill people just from being in the general vicinity. Some level four spells are just lower level effects magnified to a ridiculous degree, while others are the sorts of things you just can't do unless you're some kind of reality-warping monstrosity. Resurrection is generally a level four spell.
Level five spells are very, VERY difficult to cast without leaving obvious clues behind on the scenery. They're often supercharged level four effects, but are often the sorts of things that ruin cities, directly or indirectly.
The higher the spell level, the more dire the effects of poor rolls. That's why maxicaxi was swallowed up completely, for instance- it was a higher level spell, and so the results of failure were more catastrophic than that of a level one. As might be expected, this applies to overshots as well, meaning any high level spell has the potential- often the very likely potential- to have horrible consequences for someone, if not everyone.

SKREEEEEEEEEEE!Flagrarus, I'm going to have to veto the Mind element. I'll allow a much more focused version if you'd really like (a specific emotion or something similar), but you might want to reconsider. Otherwise you can join up whenever I get an excuse to put you in.
