Lischi: "What's a demon?" (From the perspective of one who knows nothing about them, and is asking what they are not what they do. We know they're not alive, and sometimes like an animate construct or undead, but that's about it. I'm hoping that since the group started trekking the wasteland, Sosus captured one and examined it, or pieced more together from the reports. Although, since no one asked this question before...)
The archmage ponders this for a moment, his face implying that this is a difficult question to explain.
"A demon is... a very broad term describing an inhabitant of another plane, usually associated with wicked souls. It's almost like calling something a 'tree' or 'beast' in that there are
generally certain things they have in common, but it's often not an especially useful term.
In terms of what
these demons are, we don't know. They certainly seem to be made from inanimate materials when dead, but we've never seen one being made and we haven't been able to capture one alive, so we really don't know."
Sosus pauses a moment longer, considering something, before continuing.
"What we do know is that they're not known to any summoners, scholars, or demonologists I've spoken to. What they've all agreed on, however, is that these demons are up to something. It could be a sick game, it could be some sort of gambit, who knows. But, for swarms of hateful demons who care nothing for their own survival to band together and attack major targets in persistent, coordinated, sometimes even predictable waves implies that something somewhere has more on its mind than mere carnage.
Simply put, something
has to be leading them, and that something doesn't mind that it hasn't gotten to smash anything yet."
