MS-DOS version of DF so that every ps3 owner with linux and DOSbox can play the game. It can't be that hard, can it?
I signed up for this forum to make this solitary suggestion, and insignificant as it may seem, it is my contention that making a DOS version of DF will open up a larger audience for the game. Especially considering that a linux-based ps3 is becoming more and more prevalent, and the powerPC architecture presently prohibits everything besides DOS based games. It is my personal contention that DF is the proverbial "killer app" that could open the minds of many consumers to the capabilities not only of the ps3 hardware, but also the complexities and possibilities of homebrew software. I work at a video game retail outlet(which shall remain nameless) and not a week goes by that I encounter a customer who, like me, bemoans and abhors the lack of depth and longevity of currently published commercial titles. Dwarf Fortress is a title that I have personally represented and campaigned for at said store, and I can only hope for my customers' sake that they have sought and found what I did in DF; an experience more rewarding and altogether artful(inevitable and moot comparisons to Tolkien aside) as a randomly generated world than anything offered in published titles with their pretenses of originality.
So please, pretty please, with sugar on top,
build an MS-DOS version of DF so I can play it thru DOSbox on my ps3 and hand out pro duo memory sticks with the game on it to my hardcore RPG customers to share the gaming experience that has made a better impression on me than, I dare say, Metal Gear Solid 4(no disrespect to Old Snake).
