Okay, time to put the new stuff in 31.09 to the test.
« on: July 10, 2010, 10:46:42 pm »

I started as a marksdwarf with some ambushing skill. I also started in a valley surrounded by level 2 and 3 mountains. I originally started this to see the new features for myself, but this challenge has been brought to me and I shall accept it. I will cross these mountains, drinking from the mountain rivers and eating the mountains and giant eagles I find on the way.

There's also a tunnel, I could take that through the mountains but that would be boring.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

"It is the 15th of , 1050." Good to know.

Started my quest in the desert on the east side of the valley. Found a cuddly little vulture. Incapacitated it with one bolt, which impaled it in the heart, it bled to death before I could get to it. Well, now we know for sure that kills things now.

Butchering the cuddly vulture resulted in a smorgasbord of edible vulture bits, along with some bones, skin, and fat. Kept the meat. Also kept the bones on second thought, for throwing material.

It would be a cool feature to carve those bones you got into bolts.  :o

Or wearing the skin.

Or nervous tissue.

Yeah, can't wait till we can wear the skin.

Also, crossbow bolts seem to tear off limbs really easily now. Or maybe buzzards are just pussies.

That stuff'll probably go in eventually.

As the night receded slightly, allowing me to see one tile further out, I came across another buzzard. This one was friendlier than the vulture, so I decided to bash its brains in instead of wasting valuable bolts. This time I only got one chunk of generic meat; I noticed I'm a dabbling butcher now, so I guess I was lucky the first time.

Hit the foothills of the eastern mountains. Decided to save for the night, I'll resume tomorrow.

They have soft bits.

Spears do it just as well. I've gutted so many wolves with my spear it's getting ridiculous.

Could be more from the material property update than the weapons themselves.

Dude, if you have a dagger you can use it to butcher too. Just so you know.

you can make a reaction to take the skin and turn it into armor.
though what sucks is the lack of thread... maybe use the veins and nerves as rope selling meatbags and bone statues is going to be awesome once I figure out how?

"carve figurine"
"make bone bolts"
"make cloak"
"make skull helmet"

I'm loving the potential.

The main problem I have found so far with making stuff is that I dont know how to transfer the materials.

Butchering things has made it possible to make enough money to buy new equipment without having to scavenge a pack full of trinkets from a giant's cave.  The edible parts of only sixteen animals (though some of them were Giant varieties, so probably worth a bit more) was worth 2200 dwarfbux, more than enough to ditch my copper shortsword for an exceptional bronze one.  It didn't stop the next megabeast I met from pounding my head into my torso, though.  They get pretty tough after surviving for 1050 years.

The new adventure stuff is awesome!
Well, at least its a step in the best direction.

I tried to mod in bone bolt carving, but it doesn't work :/

EDIT: Yay, I managed to make a arrow <.<

EDIT2: Now the arrows are bolts and the bones are still not only bones. Bolts (Without aligator made or such) made of scale anyone?
