Well when you have a good internet connection steam is great though.

Find people to play with, communicate with other players, encouter great games you never heard of, no more disc related problems and you can save a lot of money with steam sales.

I didn't like steam a the beginning, but once I started using it for a while it made gaming a lot more pleasant.

Where did you get the idea that bay12 has blacklisted Steam, or that we're wanking hate raging?  Two people here hate Steam, the rest are talking about how much they like it.

There was a whole thread about Steam maybe a month back. Views were generally positive.

Personally I love Steam. The one time I've had a problem it was resolved quickly and effectively. I have almost 150 steam games. I've spent 1500 dollars (Or so the Steam Calculator Says) on games from steam, though that doesn't take into account sales price at time of purchase. I can honestly say I've actually probably spent less than HALF that amount.

Steam is a 1.5 MB download. If you have an estimated download time of 1 day, that means you've got a download rate of ~1KB/min.

Something's fishy here. Try downloading Steam directly from their webpage (http://store.steampowered.com/about/). There's no reason why it would take a whole day to download something that small.

Fuck it, Im retarded or print screen just doesnt work. Now it says 15 hours and 59 minutes now. I wouldnt mind Valve at all if it was optional, but this shit fest is madatory.

uhhhh, the publisher determines if it uses steam or windows live, so I don't get why you're blaming steam instead of whoever made DoW and made connecting to the internet mandatory.

But I guess it's just cool to blame steam.

He's talking about the update for Chaos Rising, I believe. Steam requires you to update a game before you can play it for the first time (last I checked you can disable automatic updating, but only after a game is installed, which involves updating it), even if it's a single player game.

That's the only problem I have with it, aside from the fact that I can't log on from my horrible home connection (it takes ten minutes to log in, at which point it times out and crashes ). If I have access to a real connection, there's no problem.

Just gonna say that even for all their flaws, Valve is still cool and Steam is amazing.  Sucks you're apparently using 56k though, that's the issue more than anything else.

I only like Steam because I don't have to put in a disc to play the games

I like Steam because it requires the same, or less, effort to: acquire, download/install, patch, and play the game, as it does to pirate said game.
 
I wouldn't appreciate Steam as much if I wasn't on a decent connection.
 
To be fair though, why is OP sniping Steam? No hate for the release and then patch phenomenon? The publisher? The developer? Shoot the messenger?

I'm sure you could download some kind of crack for preventing you needing to connect to steam for the game, it's what I did with empire total war. Steam is an annoying god damn virus.
