I finally finished building a defensive tower only to put my crossbowdwarfs in there and have them not shoot at the sieging troops. Are crossbows jus uber bugged? or is it because the level I have my cbowmen on is 1 level above where the enemy is.

what the gay.. so i cant get them to work at all? That ruins my defence.. gonna have to wait this siege out then as they brought 2 groups this time.

Build a bunch of traps behind your door, then build another door making an airlock, link the door to a lever, and let some in to die in traps.  No need to wait the whole siege.

Also:

Military marksdwarves will fire on their enemies properly now,

So I think it is more than might be fixed in the next version.

The way of the dwarf is to use the earth itself against your foes.

Try collapsing the ground out from underneath them, into a pit of water
Maybe fill the water with death!
