Where do you need to designate drinking zones from wells?

I would like to know if you designate the drinking zone at the well or under it.
Anybody know?

Dwarves will use the well automatically. Setting a preference allows you to set up a common drinking area. Really, burrows take care of this function today so it's a bit deprecated. I guess you could force zone drinking next to murky water just to make your dwarves whiny.

The problem with 40d was that wells work great, but designating a murky pool for drinking zone makes the dwarves run across the map to a carp infected river instead of the (safe) murky pool.
