He could just be unable to speak for whatever reason, not deaf. Gordon does go through a lot of physical trauma, HEV suit or not.

Maybe the suit covers his mouth in a resperator or something. After all, he's implied to have a helmet when it's convinient.

Also, he'd have to be mute before he went to Black Mesa, because HL1 was his first day on the job, so he couldn't have had any kind of accident relating to Black Mesa. Maybe it was some MIT experiment?

The Resonance Cascade was a pretty extreme event, and you do hear Gordon breathing very hard during one part of it. Just a thought.

"Dumbstruck"--temporarily at a loss for words.  I read about characters looking around dumbly--unable to formulate the words to describe the horror they've just witnessed--all the time.  Also, animals are "dumb beasts" because they don't talk, not because they're stupid.

Aye. People still throw around "gay" with its original "happy, joyous, cheerful" meaning even though they're fully aware the word's been completely co-opted at this point. It just adds to the gravitas of the text I guess, of course depending on the context.

You guys didn't offend me since I knew what context you were talking about, but just making you guys aware of how deaf/hard of hearing people would feel about it.
