I'm sure that electricity will be implemented in some form eventually.

The magic arc, you know? Thunderbolts are a must.
What do thunderbolts have to do with electricity?

Lightning is electric?
And thunder is sound.

and thunderBOLT is?

A bolt of sound? It certainly doesn't suddenly become lightning.

You're being pedantic, and you're not being very good at it. A "thunderbolt" is a bolt of lightning. Yes, this is confusing and weird, considering that "thunder" is generally just the sound, but that's what it means.

Nah, dwarfy fishing.

I'm still seriously curious about why you thought DF has electricity.

Huh...

I've never heard of lightning being referred to as a thunderbolt. Sorry about that.

Thunderbolt is an archaic word these days, but it does refer to the bit you can see instead of the bit you can hear during a theatrically spectacular storm.

I just wanted to point out I wasn't being pedantic on purpose, just out of ignorance apparently.  :)

Of course, there's nothing to say that a DF thunderbolt would be made of electricity. It's maaaagic!

Seriously though, from a gameplay perspective, there's a big difference between lightning strikes and harnessing electricity. One would be just another thing to cause random death, tantrums, and maybe the occasional random revivification or superpower, and the other would probably cause the raws for elves, kittens, and nobles to spontaneously combust in terror.

A thunderbolt is lightning that produces thunder. Not all lightning produces thunder that can be heard on the ground.

I'd personally rather have steam power than electrical power, since steam seems to fit dwarves a little more than electricity. After all, magma can't produce electricity without steam. Unfortunately, I don't think Toady wants to add steam to the game. Even if he did, who has the excess trees and coal laying around to keep a steam engine going? Of course, magma steam power would negate the need for coal and wood steam power but that's if you've found magma.

Well if you used something to lure the mermaids in the trick is simply: make a (multiple) floodgate to close off the area then make a grate and a way to drain this area.
by the way how do you lure sea creatures to a certain area?
