Heh, nice find. But apparently it's not the only reference to DF in WoW.

There is also a Dwarf Named Kogan near the forges in one of the early Dwarf starting areas.  Though that by itself could have just been random coincidence I think there was some other reason or another why I immediately linked the name to DF.  But I can't think of what it is at the moment.

I think I'll run Tarmid my dwarf warrior back there to take a peek right quick.

I find it quite cool. It's subtle as it should be. It's a nice way for devs to show respect for quality products by other devs.

When WoW players come up empty-handed searching for Ironforge in game, they'll try google. (or call customer support asking where the hell the dwarwen fortress is)

Ironforge exists in game. It's the dwarven capital.

Kogan is the DF dwarven word for boat.

That's cool. So there is an entire Dwarf Fortress reference quest line. :D

Nice to see WoW devs on the Dwarf Fortress bandwagon (or at least know they read Boatmurdered).

If anything this will be reverse advertisement since anybody that does a google search for "dwarf fortress" will get more hits about this quest in WoW then anything referencing DF.

I'm pretty sure this won't be the case. The first hit is for this site, and then after that for the wiki, then wikipedia article, then tvtropes article, etc. If any WoW quest help thing wanted to get up there, they will have to get popular REALLY fast.

Oh, wow. That's even better! Though I can just imagine a lot of people's reactions when they Google for Boatmurder and find... Boatmurdered.

This is awesome. If only Dwarves in WoW weren't on the Alliance.

Like the dwarves would ally with orcs and undead?

Night elves on alliance.  Blood elves on Horde.   Night elves are...elves...all one with nature and stuff.  I donno I don't have one.

From what I can tell of the Blood elves they are the "Living in big fancy looking magic city" elves.  With a big swath of destruction in the middle of the city, a significant undead encroachment problem caused by a certain Warcraft 3 character, a taste for vengeance, and being forced to cold turkey a pretty fierce magic energy addiction.  DF Dwarves might actually have a chance of getting along with these elves.

Blood elves are what remains of the high elves, and now they're addicted to magic and cruelty.
