Moonbase Alpha
« on: July 07, 2010, 04:17:31 am »

Has anyone tried out the free game that's popped up on steam, Moonbase Alpha? Just got it downloading now while I head off to sleep.

Needs more rocket packs and pulse rifles.

Seriously though, looks very interesting. Will try once I get home from work.

Actually, people have been talking about it for a while.  Does kinda need a new thread though.

I like the game, and hope they will expand it some.

I would be willing to give it a go if anyone else wanted to play.

Downloading now. According to Steam, it will take about five and a half hours to download at 64k, and I have a 56k connection at best, though Steam sometimes hits triple that somehow v:-\v.

For anyone getting all giddy about it, I wouldn't expect too much from it... >_>

Free-to-play games are like the fountains in NetHack. At first, they look refreshing, but when you approach snakes pour out and eat you.

It's free. I'll get as giddy about it as I want.

It's good for a once through at least, I'm more interested in what the MMO version could become as it seems to focus on real science instead of  plugging cables into things and welding stuff until it works :P

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Yea.
"hey tim, how's the science comming?"
"Not good, we are getting nowhere."
"Try hitting it with a wrench then plugging in a cable somewhere random, then weld something to that thing."
" Hey it worked, MAJOR SCIENTIFIC BREAK THROUGH!"

I'm sure it will become good in time. After all, the first alpha version of DF Rouge Survivor wasn't that awesome.

Rouge Survivor

Oh god, now I am imagining a dwarf running away from elves dressed in drag with rouge all over their cheeks.

Just played solo. It's so-so. Annoying colision detection, I got stuck on a toolbox I had just dropped on the ground. Also, can't kill yourself by walking into the hazardous coolant leak area(invisible wall), which your spacesuit should protect you from, since a spacesuit is designed to protect from the far greater dangers of, you know, space. Unless the coolant is blowing out at a high enough pressure to shear your suit, and that is a serious threat. Not enough things to interact with. I tried going over to one of the landers thinking I could take off and abandon the people who're running out of oxygen to a rather excruiciating death. But noooo.
Well, it does use the UT3 engine, so it's probably moddable.

So, dwarves running away from normal elves?

I remember this show from when I was a kid. I wonder why I never see this in reruns?
