I can't play the new version because of lag

I DL'd the new version, set it up, and played it for a bit. It lags like crazy from embark to the point of unplayability. Afterwards I ran 40d and it ran perfectly. Does anyone have ant explanation, or does the new version just take way more CPU?

Are you using SDL or legacy?

Either way, try the other.

one uses buaghn's code and sdl to render
http://www.libsdl.org/

and legacy uses toady's old rendering code

Also, what size areas are you embarking on?  What size world did you generate?  What are your PC specs?

Have you tried to change the init settings for PRINT_MODE: ?

I know that by default it's on 2D. Which can be slow for some computers.. Try setting it to STANDARD or PARTIAL:0 or other settings. Those usually fix the problem and can speed up the game a bit.

Also try decreasing the G_FPS_MAX in the init.

Googling the name of your graphics card manufacturer + "drivers" will rarely lead you astray.  This should be what you need.
