I recently had a debate with my mother on her views of chemicals used in food preparation, every single medicine in creation and genetically altered food. I think you can see were this is going. If you can't, she thinks they are going to kill you slowly and horribly from the inside, like a little devil Pygmy. I won, or at least i think i did when i said "So why aren't you dead now?" and she stopped talking for a minute and refused to acknowledge me.

So, what are your opinions on stuff like this? Do you not want to even touch anything infected by the scourge of science? Do you genetically engineer your own food to the point were you could be considered a world wide super villain? Or do you just not care?

I am for testing all food but there is no reason not to eat the stuff that is genetically altered. You eat any food at all right?

I despise taking medicine, unless it's everyday cough medicine. And I eat whatever the hell I want. If it's tasty it's goin' in meh belleh.

All medicine upsets your internal balance in some way. However, since often the problem is that your internal balance has already tripped over its own feet, this is a good thing. Some of it's especially nasty, with the idea being that it poisons the infection or cancer or whatever you have faster than it does you. Not pretty, but it's better than the alternative.

As for food additives...my opinions are mixed. I like white bread, and bleached flour, and processed sugar. But food with preservatives in it tastes worse than food without, as long as you eat the latter before it gets to the point where preservatives would have come in handy.

Yes, it is quite true that all chemicals will participate in prolonging your existance until you die of "natural causes" related to the long lifespan induced by these chemicals! Certainly, nothing can be trusted! Save the world by not having children, so that they don't die because they never lived!

And while you are at it, go get me a bag of unhealthy, chemical-laced, calorie-filled, potato chips. I'm hungry...

But corn starch is natures duct tape, you can use it to make fructose syrup, candy, pudding, biofuels and plastics.

Science is good, but the technology needs to be treated respectfully and with due caution. People get confused about this and replace "due caution" with "fear, uncertainty and distrust".

For instance, genetically modifying organisms? Not a bad idea, in itself, but there needs to be decent regulation, questions need to be answered about how much one can patent/"own" a gene/genome/organism, and what effects they may have on the environment, or on people nutritionally/allergically/etc. Some of this stuff is hard to answer, but a lot of the naysayers just seem to treat it as bad on principle without considering that, properly handled, it can be a very, very good thing.

I don't take medicines without a good cause (mild headache or nausea aren't good causes), because lots of them are bad for you liver and I can't bother to find out which ones aren't. If I'm going to ruin my liver, I'll do it with booze!
