I actually study natural remidies as a past time, and trust me the only ones that Actually work usually have some side-effects which makes it so thye can't be sold in stores, thus natural remidies work.... just not the ones that are legal.  it sounds odd, but the only cough drop that I've gotten naturally that works, the same plant if not prepared properly can cause halucinations and death.....
   Now back on topic: I'm all for GE foods, however I dislike taking medicine unless I absolutely need to. (I'm actually going to study genetic engineering in two years, for plants anyways.)

My mom is the same way. Of course, her flat is basically covered in good luck charms, coins, those strange frogs, fu dogs, and suchlike. Yes, ma, you can keep your crazy Feng Shui shit, I'm just gonna go and crunch some aspirin.

Although, the only times I really use medicine are when I have something turrible (like the flu), or the one time I broke an ankle (the painkillers weren't really necessary, but they were awesome).

Some of the things they put in foods make me wonder. Sodium Nitrate and Sulfites especially. Not to mention the absurdly high amount of sodium content in most prepared foods.

It depend of course. Some additive are dangerous, bu less so than refined sugar and saturated fat.
As for genetically engineered plant, it's like nuclear energy, lot of potential (but nothing to do with world hunger who have mostly political causes) but lot of potential for massive disaster unless regulated correctly. I support th European decision to ban them for now.

Once again, both true and false : ephedrine, legal in the US last time I've checked, may have severe side effect, way worst than your small flu. Antibiotic induce germ resistance. A root may be better for your cold than antibiotics and ephedrine because a) you don't suffer the side effect of ephedrine b) cold is caused by a virus, the antibiotic won't have any effect anyway. Even if the root is useless.
Placebo effect is potent and may be all you need.

However Ephedrine will get you back on your feet so it may be useful.

When I have a sore throat I caramelize a bit of sugar and then dissolve it in warm milk and drink that. It certainly soothes the throat for an hour or two, and I haven't noticed any side-effects.

Dude, ginger tea actually works pretty well for that too, if you're into ginger.

Basically, you boil the ginger, and then you drink the water you used to boil it. Fantastic. Although you could probably stand to put some sugar in it.
