The DF economy kind of reminds me of feudalism. The thing about the DF economy, unlike feudalism, is that it can be held separate from the government. Feudalism, communism, and I think socialism all combine the economy and government. The DF economy almost works like a modified feudalism, and the government doesn't really control it.  How do you think it would actually work in real life?

I think one of the reasons feudalism lasted so damn long is the lack of any decent weapons that the general populace could afford. Just you try revolting against knights in full plate armor, while all you have is a few swords, and maybe some chainmail.

You might have the swords and chainmail if former soldiers join your cause. Otherwise your best thing is padded clothing and leathers, wielding sharpened farm implements (Which is where many weapons have their origin). You can definitely win through numbers and strength, but casualties will be immense on your end.

I may be a bit late to the party, but...

You have my sword. And my lands, and also my serf-women. And also the noble ones; I care not for their caprices and wanton lust.

The more I hear about this, the more I like it. To constantly have a goal in mind (make enough to keep myself alive) and to have constant structure in my life sounds great!

Which is probably not a good thing but screw thinking for yourself, it sucks anyway.

Someone should make a map of the DF forums barony with each user having their own alloted fief surrounding Aqizzar's central property.

Although I'm already having far sighted visions of the ensuing butthurt storm that would tear through this thread like a hurricane.

I call the nearby lake, as long as there aren't any damned horny sea nymphs in it.

I only wish to be his sworn sword. His beard of moss is surely a sign from Jesu. A sign of something, probably bad hygiene, but what the hell. In these times, you have to take what you get.

I want to be the guy who announces things for the kind in a really pompous voice. Do you have any openings in the department, Aqizzar? I can do a variety of silly accents.

This power of mine, to make the logical sound reasonable.  It's frightening, really.

And if anyone's going to be drawing up any maps, it'll be me.  But I'm off to my real capitalistic job in the real capitalistic world.  So, in keeping with my laizy faire style of governance, you guys knock yourselves out and I'll sign off on whatever it is later.

Except we're talking Aqizzar here. Laizy Faire makes a lot for sense for him.

We've got some socialists here who think we can have all the free market incentive you want, but we could still have a government that takes some of the earnings and makes sure no one loses too badly in the rat race, and they get picked on by everybody.

That's not socialism. That's social liberalism.  :(

EDIT: Wait, no actually, it's welfare liberalism, mixed up my terminology there, even though nobody is reading this post.
