Running map-extract.bat from the first folder gives:

code:

syntax error at map_extract.pl line 89, near "$dwarf_process->SetPriorityClass
bin\perl map_extract.pl" on the first line, and ends with "filepath\prog>pause" after the last line.

DF is running, it's paused at the escape screen, and I haven't touched any of the files it comes with.  I don't know what the problem is.  I use Jaquie_Fox's tileset, but it doesn't look like tilesets have been causing anyone else problems.

please zip and send me your map_extract.pl ( mithaldu at yahoo.de )

also, after that, download this one and replace yours with it: http://dwarvis.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/map_extract/map_extract.pl

Update for PTTG: Nothing i can do. You used Reveal on the map, which means there is suddenly a fuckton of data to go through when loading the map. I let it load completely, ended up with ~800 MB ram usage and a slick 3d view of your map at decent fps. It will show, just not very quickly.   :)

Thanks for the quick feedback! I'll have to try a few more maps. This is a really fun tool.

when I run the batch, an error comes up and says the file is not a valid win32 application and closes the window. how do I let it run?

What OS are you running on?

Many many thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm!  It makes development easier.  I've used the past few days to step away from the project and clear my head a bit, and now I'm ready to get back into the action.

I have a question to throw out about load times.  One reason the load time is so bad is that every time the world is generated (the third loading bar), it loads data for every mode (height-map, top-only, Z-slice).  This is so you can easily switch between the modes without needing to do the loading step again.  However, I think if people used height-map rarely, I could remove it from the initial loading screen.  What this means is that when you DO want to use height-map, you'll go through the loading step again but it will be shorter.

So, which modes do you use most often?  Would you rather have the first long load step, or smaller load steps whenever you switch modes?

Z-Slice, I would think.

Sounds like you might want to unzip that before running it... Is that the problem?

It's... quite hard to traverse your fortress as a dwarf would as you keep slipping through the floor.</STRONG>

Is this possible?
Or an "on-foot" mode like somebody else suggested.

Yep, I'm working on collision detection with walls right now and once I can get that working, I'll release a version with "dwarf mode".

Hey does the visualizer differentiate between metal walls and stone walls? Or is every wall just the same type of material?
