Or maybe it has something to do with the lion face on the wall of the other tower to the left.
Or perhaps it could be both?
Because things can serve two purposes!  Isn't that amazing?

That's not how buds talk to each other.  I'm starting to get suspicious you aren't a bud at all, "jaybud."

No matter what version I use I get
map_extract.pl - extracts dwarf fortress map data from the memory while in game

show help with 'map_extract -h'.

Couldn't find process ID, make sure DF is running and a savegame is loaded. at map_extract.pl line 253
                 main::init_process_connection<> called at map_extract.pl line 32

Press any key to continue...

when I open map extract. Fresh download from the thread. What am I doing wrong/what do I need to do? Df IS running, it IS loaded.

I would REALLY love a list of what things make different textures.  I've noticed that dirt walls look different from stone ones, and apparently there's some difference somewhere in the rough rock-smooth rock-constructed thing, but I don't know if constructed looks different from smooth.  And does wood look different from anything else, or is it just that ramps/stairs are always wood?

I'm trying to make this neat tree-looking thing with my water and magma pumped in a spiral around the outside like vines, and want to make that spiral look like a different texture, see.

What version of DF? I believe 40d ws the last one 3Dwarf works with. 40d1(2,3,...) won't work. am i right?

@GetAssista: DOOD! what are you building?? a space elevator? and what's your FPS with that many z-levels?

I, too, would like instructions on how to change 3Dwarf's textures.  I saw where somebody made a "green glass" texture so their glass fortress wouldn't look like stone in 3Dwarf.  If there's an easy way to replace or add textures, I'd sure like to know about it.

For that matter, I haven't played the 40d9 version because I hear that 3Dwarf doesn't work with it.  It's too bad Mithaldu hasn't released an updated version in a while.

Sinoth and mithaldu do wait for the next DF version for updating theyr tools iirc. Mithaldu did for his lifeIs (DwarfIs ??) research of the new pointer addresses so his tool can work with 40d9. How far he got is another question.

Maybe I mixed up the letters...
Dang my dyslexia.
Your daft; it plainly says ZOHL. His "L"'s just backwards.
I should know; I've delt with Zohls practically every day of my life.

I'm not trying to change the textures.  I just wanna know how it works right now, if it's possible to get two different textures on something you build aboveground (or below soil layers).

You're 15 days late.
It was already explained that it's sideways and spells LION, to go with that :3 on the other tower and Toady's lion-bank.  Hence my comment at the top of this page.

How did you get the map to generate like that?  (lots of curves, z-levels)

I didn't. I've had my dwarves digging ramps almost non-stop, sculpting the terrain to be steeper. Still have a long ways to go before I'm done with it. FPS drops from 100+ to low 10s while the ramps are being dug.

Very cool... that "pit" near the bottom at the base of your fort... is that a magma vent?  It's blocked by the third bridge support.  At least, it looks like there could be a pit with a tower next to it.  Love it though... looks very awesome.
