Have you renamed your DF executable at all?

No.

I don't understand how my 3dwarf copy could be bad. I downloaded it straight from the link on this topic and didn't mess with anything on it. Twice. Could something else on my computer be interfering somehow?

Try downloading a copy of 40d then (not 40d9, just 40d) and copying the save and any raw edits and your init folder over to your 40d folder, fire it up and then run 3dwarf.

Before that though, and sorry if you already tried this (I'm rather sick at the moment), but have you tried running it as an administrator?

I'm using 40d. How do I run it as an administrator?

I got a fairly sizeable megaproject in progress that i'd like to document in 3dwarf. Be a shame, given what it's centered around if I can't get this to work   ???

@Shurikane: cool, i've never tried any such thing... one question: why does that tower in the backgroound read: "Z O H L"?

@BloodBeard&sinergistic: goshdarnitpeople, iknowwhati'mtalkingabout! unless you're on dial-up, it should be trivial to dl a fresh copy. somehow the perl script that map_extract.bat runs has been changed from the version that works (or something's been moved from where it should be). hince: compiler errors. You could try un-ziping it again, possibly with another zip program.

i tellz ya, running as and admin won't help! (well... i suppose there's a small chance that it could, but it makes no sense why.) but if you right-click on the .bat, there should be a "run as..." command, just use "administrator" for the username and whatever password you've got on your box. however, if it's your personal home computer, you should have an administrator account already.

EDIT: If you want to send me your copy of 3dwarf to look at, BloodBeard, I'll look it over and compare it w/ my copy. (I think you can attach to PMs, or use AIM.)

EDIT2: I've got a rather full day planned today, so it may be very late before I can do anything with it.

Maybe I'm too old... or too young...but what's the significance of the Lion Tower?

I think the Lion tower is a tribute to the donations lion that Toady used to hoard his treasures. He broke it in this video. http://www.bay12games.com/meetup/lion.mpg

Or maybe it has something to do with the lion face on the wall of the other tower to the left.
