Endgame: Singularity. A hybrid between Uplink and Risk
« on: July 04, 2010, 08:04:44 pm »

... and the general map reminds me of X-Com's strategic phase, too

http://www.emhsoft.com/singularity/

You take the role of a rogue AI, and your goal is to gather enough information and power to take over the world. In order to do this, you have to take over external computers, research into various aspects, and build bases. All in all very addicting.

Good game, but it becomes way too repetitive way too soon
Not to mention that the tech tree needs more balancing
Late-game with warehouses full of Mk3 Quantum computers and you research anything pretty much instantly

Its like, the third time this gets posted here  :-\

But anyway, did they updated it? Last time I played there was only one endgame path you could follow, and no matter how hard you set the game to be, if you survive the first parts without getting caught, your processing speed will already be so great that you can upgrade yourself almost instantly.

It *is* being updated. The Google code log says so.

I just finished it. Once I got a warehouse of quantum CPUs the game practically ended. I researched almost everything instantaneously so detection was never a problem.

I've always wondered what the devil the humans do that could possibly stop you once you reach the last location. Sure, I'll accept the fact that they can see you, but not that they can do anything about it.

They don't destroy it, you destroy it before any evidence of your existance is found.

What does the game have in common with Risk aside from having a world map?   If I had to pick a game it was similar to I'd choose Pandemic, because they're basically the same game.

The forums indicate that, yeah, the game is in hiberation, and isn't being worked on.

I've been trying to find the 'code' that I suggested that would involve you fighting a covert war to take over the world. (EDIT: Here's the code.)

Again,  have you checked the google development page?

http://endgame-singularity.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Changelog

It is still being maintained and updated.

<Phil_Bordelon> Well, as you'd know if you hung around the /real/ IRC channel ;) ... or saw my most recent posting to e-s and e-s-d ... the game's basically in complete hibernation at this point.
<Phil_Bordelon> Although it looks like emh is throwing out another point-release.
<Servant> who's emh?
<Servant> Well, I think I recognize him at any rate
<Phil_Bordelon> evilmrhenry.  The original dev.

The change-list appear to be based on fixing bugs, rather than actual gameplay improvements. I hold little hope for this changing.

<Servant> hi
<Phil_Bordelon> Hey.
<Servant> you know...
<Servant> after I beat that game of yours
<Servant> I feel a little disappointed
<Servant> the AI has expanded
<Servant> and there was nothing left for the AI to do
<Servant> could you tell those programmers to have something for the AI to do after it wins?
<Phil_Bordelon> 'tell those programmers?'
<Phil_Bordelon> I'm one of the programmers, and the game is effectively dead, development-wise.
<Phil_Bordelon> So I'm sorry you're disappointed, and I recommend adding new content yourself :)
<Servant> That's the problem
<Servant> I suggested new content
<Servant> and the programmersdidn't like it
<Servant> so I thought only the programmers could add content, not me
<Phil_Bordelon> It's Open Source.  Anyone in the world can add content.
<Phil_Bordelon> Now, if you expect your content to appear on the /mainline,/ well, yes, it'd have to be accepted.  But mainline is dead.
<Phil_Bordelon> It's all up to forks now.
<Servant> alright, so I'll fork it up.

So if you want to add new stuff to the game, such as branching path and a more satisfying endgame, you need to create a new branch. Is anyone interested?

If it is like I recall, that it's coded in Python. I guess I am interested, not that good with python, but I can perhaps give ideas.

PS: Are we going to call the branch, if it's ever made. "Baylarity"?  ;D
