I filled the lake via a giant glass obelisk/pump stack rising out of the middle, and I had a number of cool underwater structures (one cool aspect of artificial lakes is you can do this sort of thing) like glass-walled underwater dining rooms, a murky underwater glass-ceiling cemetery, and wagons coming into the fort had to go through a glass tube on the lake bed. I think I could do it way better a 2nd time.

I think I might add some of this to the artificial lake I'm making... interesting ideas...

Oh my.  You certainly do grow an awful lot of food, don't you?  Your surplus must grow by about a thousand produce a year at the very least!

As for the outer appearance, it looks quite nifty.  The inner layout isn't how I'd personally do it, but I tend to favor stark design efficiency over an "add-as-you-need-it" design mentality.

well i like to make the fortress look cool, like an actual fortress might look. I find it more fun that way. magma lighthouse must be done too, maby i can make a combo lighthouse execution tower, and pipe some of the magma for the light in the lighthouse to a magma furnace.

and update on the current state of my fortress, some gobbos tried to ambush me, managed to seal them out nicely with only a few stray cats and a tame dog still outside.

And another take on this would  be to carve a really cool river going down a mountainside, pump water to the top and build a fort along your artificial river :P
deffinitely gona have to do this on my next fortress, gona have to be a map with more terrain varriation than i have right now. deffinitely should make the artificialriver go through the fortress to reep all the benefits of any generated mist.
