Games with weather conditions
« on: July 03, 2010, 03:10:36 am »

Any low-on-the-radar games out there that rely heavily on weather? Rain, fog, snow, temperature, even humidity?

Don't really care about the type of game as long as it isn't a war game.

You have to love retro games.  Like....really, really, really, REALLY love them.  A lot.  This is extreme even for me.

But you'll learn to fucking hate snow.  And NIGHTTIME.  And even clouds, if you don't have a compass.  Rain is a love-hate relationship.  God, the number of games where nighttime and clouds have a realistic impact is so very few.

Yea, Wilderness definitely has weather effects. It's pretty realistic on everything. I played it a bit a few years back, but I never really got into it.

UnReal World http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html has weather too. It's not super complex, but you can get cold in the spring rains and you can't sleep during a rain without having a shelter (or a house, obviously). You also have to wear furs and such to stay warm, and build a fire during the winter time. I don't think it models actually being wet yet, so that part of the weather doesn't hurt you - but being out in a snowstorm at night can get you frostbite pretty quick. It's a pretty basic weather system, but more complex than most games.

Played unreal world. Don't like the idea of sitting in my cabin for 4 months eating dried meat and bean soup. With no speed-up button.

its $55 if you want to get updates for it. The $3 option is only for whatever the current version is and you won't even get minor patches and bugfixes, its $9 for those.

I got it for 3 bucks, tried to play it 4 different times, either crashed or froze every time, in different times. I never got to actually play the game, some times it would crash in the main menu, sometimes it would crash while making a character, the really annoying and last time I tried it, it crashed after I finally made a characer, saw the world map, and..Crashed.

Oblivion crashes less than that game. That's hard to do.

You actually have to pay in order to get fixes for a product they screwed up on?!

Nope. You can pay for the current version, the current version and the next major version, or a lifetime one.

Oh, and Johbson, I never had any of those problems. How long ago was this?

I honestly find the game very enjoyable.

Your not missing out on much. The game just seems too little when compared to DF. Unreal world is about 10% of what DF is. And you have to wait until winter is over with no speed up. How long is that? 1, maybe 2 hours?

Well, the only thing that I know of that has any environmental effects and such is RPGWO.

Only heat/cold effects during summer/winter, and snow on the ground during the winter, unless the latest version does more than that.

I remember that they released the server software for an older version for free a while back. It's not a bad sandboxy-type game for something made by one guy.
