Both of those are discontinued, limited supply clearance models

It's pretty similar in price with the rest. I don't think they are, though.

You think incorrectly then, the MSRPs are identical, those are both older fat models that are no longer being produced by either company :P

I got mine for roughly $300 at the Kitchener Best Buy. I think it's the 80GB edition.

The whole Blu-Ray debate annoys me, anyway. I just feel it's unnecessary.

Even taken out of context this statement is rather Interesting.

They are already trying to knock the Blue-Ray off with the next CD... whatever the heck it will be...

Spoiler: Blu-ray ranting (click to show/hide)

Sorry, had a little rant. 360 huzzah, mostly just 'cause i prefer the exclusive games and 'cause I have no use for the other features- if i want a media center, i have my computer or the loungeroom TV for that.

SkyNet.

That's what they said about copy machines...

Except copy machines (copy machines was the best example, really?) lead to a bunch of new technologies due to application of their various forms and applying them to seperate situations. Printers, scanners... That's about it, I think. Do printer-scanners count?

Blu-Ray seems like a dead end technology (I might be wrong, but I doubt it) which will just spawn Blu-Ray spin offs. The extra space is pretty unnecessary (except for HD, which as others said is worthless) except to push some kid's e-peen. Etc etc.

Copy machines are a perfect example.  People said copy machines would never take off, because people wouldn't use them, because people didn't make copies.  Of course the reason people didn't make copies was because they were such a freaking pain to make before copy machines.  The point is, you're arguing from ignorance.  You're saying a new technology will never go anywhere because you can't see the use for it.  There are countless instances of people saying exactly this and being wrong.  Moving pictures were never going to take off because what was the use of moving pictures when we had plays?  Hell, people probably dismissed the printing press because people didn't read books before it, though I haven't specifically heard anything to that effect.  It's the nature of technological progress that people will dismiss new technology based on their own lack of imagination, but that doesn't make it any less silly.

i think all the profiteering that's going on as a knee-jerk reaction to rampant piracy is a load of shit. we're getting less and less value for money ($90-120 AUD for a game in Aus + dirty non-stop, unnecessary DLC) and the mainstream (non-indie) industry as a whole is going hollywood on our arses and churning out more and more hollow, money-making crap. indie games are providing a degree of innovation but they too are mostly overcharging (woo i'm makin friends in this post :P). the games industry is a fricken joke and i'm becoming more of a pirate and turning to indie developers by the day.

The reason you don't notice a difference in quality in the Blu-Ray is because your TV and sound system aren't advanced enough to actually relay the quality to you. It sucks, I know, since (as I mentioned before) I have a 30 year old Toshiba television. It weighs four hundred pounds and is a huge box. I can't even see the sides of the picture, because everything is too wide to fit on my TV nowadays. And I certainly don't even get HD quality, let alone Blu-Ray. When I play the first Uncharted, I can barely see the enemies, it's like playing hard mode ALL THE TIME.

When you see HD and Blu-Ray on a television that can handle it, though, it really is awesome to look at.

Except they are examples of true innovation. They didn't just invent a technology, they invented an aspect of life to go with it. Blu-Ray has not done that. It's been out for long enough to make assumptions on it's growth.

I'm not really arguing from ignorance, I'm arguing from watching trends, cultural response etc. I'd say anyone claiming Blu-Ray is an innovative and useful technology are the ones arguing from a base of being ignorant of Blu-Ray.

HD on 360 doesn't make a massive difference to me, at the least. TV can definitely handle it.
