I'd say the Xbox won by people. PS3 didn't really get bought because of the insane fucking pricetag.
But the ps3 is still superior and the high price tag is for funding them able to be giving you:
A.blu ray
b.free PSN
c.overall better system
d.whatever elss that the ps3 does better, oh customer support and having not all DLC's that are free on PC cost money
Not so. The Xbox is waaaayyy better[Lol I troll u. Nah, just kidding around man, though I do believe the 360 is much better.]
A.In the traditional sense, they don't give you blu ray per se. The blu ray has no point, in fact its a bad decision. They simply add on the pricetag for a blu ray, when it simply works the PS3 more, decreasing the length of time it will take for it to give out. Let's be realistic here, every system, even PCs, even if you take care of them right, exstensively will give out after so much use. Maybe the PS3 lasts a bit longer than the Xbox-So what? I know that the PS3 has exclusive games, but so does Xbox.
b. From what I hear, PSN is pretty bad, with people not having microphones to speak on PSN-Does PSN even have voice-to-voice communication? I bet it does, but if it doesn't...
c.Hahhahhaha I"m just going to say it's a better system and do nothing to back my argument up.[I don't see this as trolling, simply disagreeing with the way you're presenting it. If it is trolling to you just post in the thread/PM me and I will edit c out.]
d.Pretty sure the Xbox does alot of things great that the PS3 does worse. Both have their strong points. Also, I've never heard of a DLC that costs money on the Xbox not cost money on the PS3. Link/pictures?

I think this is referring to any major content update for some games (Valve games especially) being forced by Microsoft to cost money on the Xbox (Crash Course, for example), and is more of a point against the Xbox than a point for the PS3.

I forgot that you had to pay money for the Xbox 360's online capabilities. I think overall, if you buy the PS3 (especially now that the prices are matched up at $299.99) with multiplayer play in mind, you save money over the 360 because you're not paying the subscription fee.

EDIT: Playing online on the PS3 does indeed have voice chat, I don't understand why people think otherwise.

EDIT2: I got my PS2 nearly eight years ago, and it's still chugging alone just fine, and I suspect the PS3 will perform equally well, so I'm not overly concerned about it breaking down.

Gee, it sure is my console is better then yours in here.

For the most part the PS 3 and xbox play the same games and the superior system doesn't mater because as E3 has shown us the industry is all about coping what the others are doing.

The real thing here is developers*(37)
The console war is only as strong as the game that exist for it. Honestly if we wanna talk  about the PS3 vs Xbox its pointless because the games are the same for the most part, sure one has Halo and one has infamous, but they are so generic who cares?

So tell me what the devs are doing wrong and what they are doing right?

We're allowed to share our reasons for preferring a system without having somebody stumble in and accuse us of having a flamewar, right?

Especially since I listed my reasons for preferring the PS3 as including the neato features besides games, like being able to stream stuff from my computer to my console. Blu-ray isn't really useless, either, as garblename said earlier, because on high end TVs, it actually is a higher video quality (and so you can have a PS3 instead of a DVD/Blu-ray player, saving you money again).

Here is sort of how I see the consoles gamewise.

1) Wii: It started off as a gimic so indeed it was the system to have. However other then a few select games its library it doesn't have a lot of great games. It is bogged down with shovelware and the Wiimote is starting to become more of a hinderance then a benefit with games using the Wiimote in ways it shouldn't.

2) Xbox360: Started off strong with a few great games. However it slowed down considerably allowing the PS3 to catch up.

3) PS3: Game late to the party and it didn't have... anything. for quite some time... However the 360 slowed down to a crawl allowing the PS3 to catch up.

I guess it's about even between the two if you only care about games, but if you're also interested in a full media centre the PS3 is the better option.

Whichever way the console 'war' goes by the end of it all, even last place surpasses the previous generation's runners up, so overall the market for hardware is looking stronger
 For comparison:
Generation 6 consoles  -  Estimated units sold by end
PS2 - 144 million (and still being built)(god damn!)
XB - 24 million
GC - 22 million
Total - 190

Generation 7 consoles - Estimated units to date
Wii - 72 million
360 - 41 million
PS3 - 36 million
Total - 149

With at least 2 years left in the main lifespan of the systems, that's not bad at all. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft is in such a rush to move onto the next thing like they were last generation - they actually raised the price of the plain old Xbox and pretty much dropped all real support for it the moment 360 was ready :P

Yea, the PS2 was admittedly much better than the original Xbox. The Wii only really has family games, the few Teen-Mature rated games are usually mainstream. So yeah, if you've got a family, a Wii is REALLY good.

[citation needed]

The prices are identical for the current primary models of both con soles - $299.99 USD at retail

Not in England:-

PS3
360

Cheapest versions of both, and both are "on sale".

Both of those are discontinued, limited supply clearance models

It's pretty similar in price with the rest. I don't think they are, though.

It would be... except by Dad is a bit crazy... He bought everyone a Blue-ray player... I don't even watch movies in my room... it is collecting dust.

The whole Blu-Ray debate annoys me, anyway. I just feel it's unnecessary.
