Use this solution Magma + (Any Creature/Material) = Problem Solved

Why not have 1 Main fortress and the wise old man living in the woods (Lone Dwarf)
Well, for one, there's no way I'm going to get magma to the surface with one dwarf in any timely manner.
Secondly, I've only one pick/axe, so the others would be the ones living in the woods.

I know what you could do to the migrants- if you put them in water, then put magma on the water, it encases them without killing them.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.

Surprisingly, nobody has asked what I did with the other six of my starting seven...

There are only five Dwarven corpses there.

They're all there, trust me. One must just be under a spider, or something.

okay then this raises the question... how'd you do it?

dug the whole, designated it as a burrow, constructed a floor tile over the staircase, waited.

Burrows are good like that.

Sorry this update came so late, I got totally wrapped up in a megaproject on another fort.

------

Zas' stomach grumbled. It'd been longer than he could remember since he'd had a meal that he hadn't foraged from a plant. As he looked around, he noticed several wild horses nearby.

"Ah!" he thought, "I could build a kennel with some of this spare wood.... and then capture those horses, and tame them, and maybe they'll breed, and I can have a stable food supply!"

"On second thought, I'm just going to whack one with my pick."

This was not Zas' brightest idea. Looking back, he was glad none of the council had seen what happened next, because he would never live it down.

In a word, horses are fast. And dwarves, well.... dwarves are not.

As Zas took off towards the horses, and picked one out from the herd, they all bolted in different directions. Zas tried to get close enough to swing his pick, which led to a sort of retarded game of tag.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Surviving out here was going to be harder than Zas expected.

Meanwhile, he had finally gotten to work on his little surprise for when the others returned. Since he wasn't going to have as much time as he would like, he would have to creative....

First, he was going to need mechanisms. Lots of mechanisms.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next, he mined out a tunnel, and starting building at the end. What dark plans could he have drafted, sitting alone in his room at night?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A lever? This is madness!

Just a quick sneak preview of the next update:

So? What do YOU think is going to happen next?

I've got the next three updates written (I had a busy night.... or rather, I still haven't gone to bed yet), and how fast/slow I trickle them out has yet to be decided. If there are a lot of typos, I'll try to fix them as I catch them, but like I said... it's been a while since the last time I slept.

I've got the next three updates written (I had a busy night.... or rather, I still haven't gone to bed yet), but I haven't uploaded the pictures yet. How fast/slow I trickle them out has yet to be decided, but they're pretty hefty. I might break them up into four updates instead. If there are a lot of typos, I'll try to fix them as I catch them, but like I said... it's been a while since the last time I slept.

/edit: Oh. Wow. Did I do this, or was it a forum bug? I didn't think I was so tired as to quote my own posts, but maybe...

I'm still playing/writing as I go, so bear with me. (Bare with me? I'm not sure which spelling that uses).
Let me clear that up for you, then!

"Bear with me" means something like "be patient with me".
"Bare with me" is a bit closer to "let's get naked together".

You decide.

Hmm... my choices are patience, or nudity.
Yup, this is a dwarf fortress forum alright.

Also, is your name "Puck" based on the hockey variety, or the more Shakespearian kind?
