Eyecandy game for linux
« on: July 02, 2010, 10:11:53 am »

Friend of mine, who uses linux exclusively, got himself an new shiny vidcard.

I want to get him to play something eyecandy-ish, crysis-style, so he can appreciate his new toy a bit better.

Since I dont use linux, I might need some help here. Suggestions?

I dunno about flashy linux games, but if you want something impressive I'd recommend compiz-fusion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4wB3GUemVw  It's a desktop-environment with more flashy effects than Vista's Aero, by far. If that's not the sort of thing he wants, I don't know. I don't use Linux often, so I don't know of any super-flashy native linux games. Sorry. *shrug*

I wouldn't play games on linux. It seems like it would be too much of a hassle... The games on this list are probably the flashiest you'll be able to play.

I hope it helps.

Spring works and can be reasonably flashy.

The Touhou Project games are reasonably flashy, hard as hell, and work nearly as well in Wine as they do on Windows.

Some of the games based upon the later Unreal engines are available for Linux as well. Most certainly all Unreal and Unreal tournament games and maybe some others too.

I know Doom 3 will run natively in Linux, I hear it was pretty good for it's time... granted it was a few years ago.

Never played any version of it myself... but it's the first commercial game for Linux that comes to mind
