I was just using some creativity to introduce my guy as a leader. I felt like a military takeover would have been most appropriate for a militia commander.

dorfing me as one of the immigrants might be amusing. Could be a good challenge to write it up as one of the poor schmucks valuable immigrant workers suddenly given a leadership position.

dunno, you set the barracks to 'T'rain people? If they're inactive, they'll do training when they're not doing other jobs (unless they're procrastinators)

I'm loving it so far, Evil. :)

For the overlaboured (Is there such a thing as an overworked Dorf?) *Peons.. Well, a lot of the labours are used only rarely (Butcher, tanner), or in short, frenetic bursts (Armorer, Weaponsmith), so having a Dorf who's only enabled labour is one of those is horribly inefficient. Conversely a lot of labours, in certain circumstances, only affect the speed, not quality of the work (Such as Masonry, Mechanics and Carpentry for building walls/floors/traps/etc). Hence why almost every Dorf gets those labours turned on, and why it's the Workshops that have specific skill-levels associated with them. I also tend to leave one of the Masons Workshops at Dabbling, and set it to repeat-build Blocks, to help train Masons up a bit.

As to the bloodless coup? Great work, Evil. That's what Minty McStalin gets for actually arming the Proles. ;)

I'm looking forward to more, loving your style. Though as has been said before, more details/screenies wouldn't go amiss. And I'm certainly intrigued by the "New Dining Hall". Can't wait for a save so I can explore it and see what it does. :)

Doesn't work, just leave them actuve but idle. Only way to train in the current version.

Alright, I'll get Part 2 of 2 up today. Its summer, and I'm gonna force most of the dwarves into masons to get my project done.

12th Hematite, 1053 – Morning
I'm beginning to fear for my life. I know someone's out to get me! I just know! He's forming a peasant army to overthrow me! I can tell by the way dwarves look at me as I pass. By the way they stop doing their work and just glare! Oh, but I'll have the last laugh! Each, and every one of them shall be interrogated for signs of treason! And then, when they submit, I'll sentence them to immediate execution! I know some people are still loyal to me. Like my guards, right? They're loyal...

12-13th Hematite, 1053- Midnight
I fear the worst now diary! These maniacs, they are all out to get me! Each and every last one of them! Just now, one of the military bastards snuck into here, carrying a sword. The only thing that saved my life right there was a plate on the floor. It crunched as he stepped on it and I awoke. He claimed he was here to just check something in the records, but you don't go sneaking around with a sword just to check some records. Thats it, I'm starting the interrogation chambers today. I found an odd dwarf, one might call him a maniac. He mentioned in casual conversation he served the Count before coming here. I asked him what he did, and do you know what he whispered in my ear? He said he was a torturer, just the dwarf I was looking for. He didn't have many friends, so I befriended him quickly. I asked him if he would do some torturing for me, and over a beer he agreed. I ordered the miners to start excavating the torture room under the orders of carving a hospital. These miners, they'll never know what they are carving out, but what they don't know won't hurt them. I also order them to start carving out a panic chamber for me, the sheriff (one of the only dwarves I still trust), the torturer and a couple of other trustworthy dwarves. I claim it will just be a food silo, and they get to digging.

The moody dwarf makes an amulet. Useful. Real useful. Even worse, it doesn't have any relevance to me! I'm having this dwarf tortured and interrogated first.

25th Hematite, 1053
We attract no migrants, just when I need them most. Surely word of the execution chamber couldn't have gotten out, right? Also, the military finally gets its ass into gear. They must be trying to regain my trust. I'LL KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!

5th Malachite, 1053
Somehow, the sheriff has been elected as mayor. Its nice to have someone I trust in charge. But resentment is building. The others know, that I partially arranged his election. Its easy to rig an election when there are only a few ballot-counters and you have an axe. I just pressed my bloody friend to a couple of their heads and when the ballots were counted, he won! Now he's demanding better rooms and making mandates. I think I might need to press my bloody friend to HIS head.

14th Malachite, 1053
I order the glassmaker to start making windows, for the new “dining room.”

1st Limestone, 1053
Fall comes, there is only 3 months until the New Years execution! Everyone must hurry. The execution chamber has only reached its 5th floor. I would attach some pictures diary, but instead I will wait until it is completed for the best reveal. I have made two dwarves full time glassmakers. My panic chamber is complete, and the dwarves are hauling out stone as we speak. Also, the damn humans are here. I hate humans just as much as I hate elves. I'm trying to trade with them for some needed goods, but “Snook” our resident lazy broker insists on hauling garbage instead. I need a drink. Nowadays, I only drink in my chamber, my axe lying a few feet away from me. I know they are out to get me. Every last one of them. I can't wait for the torture chamber to be completed. I'll have all the traitors revealed and executed, to instill some loyalty in these useless peasants.

Well, the merchants leave the depot before Snook gets his lazy ass over there. I think me and my little friend are going to go have a talk with him.

15th Limestone, 1053
That sheriff! I'll have him impaled! He's been working for Minty the whole time! I trusted him! Diary, I've been betrayed by one of the only dwarves I trust. Soon, my panic room will be complete and I will be able to lock myself away. But thank goodness for that torturer, Mafol. I had him “speak” with the sheriff in the recently dug out “hospital” after I heard rumors of the sheriff being unhappy and speaking with Minty. I'll slay him! He will be the second to be executed, right after I figure out who tried to kill me with a sword

21st Sandstone, 1053
The project isn't close to being finished. So much for the New Year's execution of those traitors. Speaking of traitors, I've officially moved into my panic room. Now, I'll be able to lock myself up safely in case of emergency. Also, no new migrants.

3rd Timber, 1053
Diary, there is something horribly wrong. I know they are plotting something by the way they glare at me. They are all out to get me! I have the interrogator bring some of the military into the hospital. I stand outside the door, listening to their screams as he gets the answers I want.  He then injects them with a plant he won't mention, that wipes their memory of the past day. Well, in most cases. Occasionally, he tells me, that they forget their identity, but, he assures me it is very rare. Frankly diary, I couldn't care less if they forget who they are. If they do forget, it means one less sword aimed at my back.

10th Timber, 1053
Diary, an attempt upon my life has just been made. I was walking outside the fortress, observing the work upon my obelisk, when a bolt flew by my ear, imbedding itself in the rock face. I quickly turned and dropped down to the ground while the assassin fled, but not fast enough for me to not see the pick on his back and the glint of a crossbow. I retreated to the fortress, confining myself to my panic room. There is only one dwarf, that has access to military equipment and wields a crossbow. But to be sure, I have my torturer bring the arsenal dwarf in for questioning.

13th Timber, 1053
The dwarven caravan arrives, and Snook promptly reports to the depot. He clearly doesn't want to meet my little friend again. Also, the arsenal dwarf, after repeated torture, confirmed my suspicions that Minty is out to get me. He doesn't say who the assassin was, claiming he doesn't know. I have one of my spies keep an eye on him.

17th Timber, 1053
Diary, another attempt has been made upon my life! I was examining the tomb under construction in my panic room, when one of the built in stone traps triggered and almost clobbered me. I only survived due to my military training! I order the torturer to interrogate the mechanic.

21st Timber, 1053
The mechanic claims to have not done anything to the traps, but he says he noticed the sheriff messing around with them, claiming it was my orders, shortly before the mechanic left. I'm tempted to bring Minty in for interrogation, but that would be too noticable. I order the sheriff interrogated.

24th Timber, 1053
The sheriff breaks under the strain of torture. He confesses to a plot against my life, and claims the assassin was Lor, a metalcrafter.  This makes sense, as he could have easily forged the weapons. I order him arrested and the sheriff's memory gets wiped. Clearly something goes wrong as when he wakes up, he has no idea who he is. I “fill him in”, by telling him that he is a faithful servant of mine, and order him to arrest Lor. He rushes off, also, I tell him he is named Cacame, an elf name, just so I can get some revenge. I love being in charge, this puts a target on my head.  But, I have a brilliant idea! I will appoint a new leader, yet will control him as a puppet, thus, I get to be in control, but don't get a bulls-eye painted on the back of my head.

30th Timber, 1053
Now is the time for my plan. I casually walk into the current dining room, and to get everyone's attention, I shatter one of the nice clear glass windows I ordered. Then I look at the crowd. A few dwarves glare, unhappy to be disrupted during their booze drinking. I stand up on a chair and say “I quit.” Then, I take out the keys from the leader's office and chuck them into some poor chump's soup. I point my axe at him and say “Your in charge.” I walk away. I expect that in a few days, he'll be completely clueless at what to do, and I'll just step in and “advise” him. Sadly, my project wasn't finished by New Year's eve.

I felt that this was a pretty productive year. I got a basic clear glass industry up, beside the wood burner. I got a panic room made, in case invaders overrun the fortress. The panic room should be cleaned out and loaded up with food. Also, the hospital is filled with rocks that need hauling too. The execution tower is only half-finished. It still needs another 5 stories in my opinion. I ordered 120 tables and chairs for it, which equals roughly 10 stories. The tower need an eleventh story, where the dropping happens. That floor, should be open to the air and the hole should not be covered, because there is no access to the bodies, and we don't want miasma cloggin the view, right? Here is how the eleventh floor should look like this:

Also, I made a bridge infront of the entrance, so more shutoff opportunities. The military was also enlarged. Also, I made myself a nice room and tomb inside the panic room. Its being engraved. Also, some other stuff I forgot.

Got the save. I'll take a look at it later tonight. EG if you want to keep an eye on things just do what I've been doing and grab every save. It'll be quicker than waiting for another turn, but if you want another go I have no problem with it.
