Hmmm, wasn't expecting to be added... But this should be interesting. Now to devise a clever megaconstruction.
Our long term goal, seeing as we settled in a relatively sand-rich place, is to be a lively glassmaking industry.

I propose a giant glass mug. And by giant, I'm talking like at least 50 Z levels tall. We could make it 3 - 5 tiles thick, so as to have room inside for building access stairways and what have you. Then, once it's built, we could pump it full of water, or something. I don't know.

I like it! i'll have to think about maybe if there's a different one we could do though :)

I suggest you don't think too much what you build and where. When ever you need something, build it as close as possible to where you need it. that way your fortress will eventually become epic

Okay, downloaded the save.. I'll start on it tomorrow.. First things first, get some traps built, and start the excavations for the well/fungus-farm irrigation sprinkler. Looks to be a fairly massive amount of ores available.. I think I may use the mined-out veins as the basis for corridors, with rooms leading off as convenient..

Okay, first load of the game, haven't even unpaused it yet.. Fired up DT and having a good look at what I've got to work with..

First things first, the requested Dorfings. Quick note.. looks like a good 70-80% of the population is female.. I'm assigning Dorfings based on job/skills, not gender. Besides, all Dorfs look the same, right?

- We have Snook Solonerith, which  translates as Snook Flaglabored from the Dwarfish. She has no family, but plenty of friends. And likely to get a whole heap more, as she's the Fort's broker, and has absolutely no labours enabled but hauling and cleaning thus far. She has adequate skill at just about everything personal, including the all-important appraisal..

- Second up, Existent Duthalablel (Or Worthbusts, to her friends, of which she has several, but no family), is one of the Fort's two Accomplished Miners. A worthy, hard-working and thankless job, one that often leads  the practitioner into the very depths of the earth.. Normal hauling and Mining enabled, strangely..

- And then there's yours truly.. Minty Nishtogal.. Called Tradestorm by those clean-faced diplomats that try and skim us for every penny.. No friends, but somehow became leader of this merry band of misfits.. And yes, the Dorf's a female, and I'm not.. But she's got a beard, and so do I, so it's good enough for me. :D

(God-note: If anyone REALLY wants to be a different gender, please speak up, and I can retcon things.. But bear in mind, male dwarfs are at a premium, so you might not get the profession you prefer.)

Second order of business.. Sort out the labours.. I detest lazy dwarves with a passion.. Therefore, everyone gets all non quality-critical labours activated ('Cept the Miners, of course. Them guys're special), and the quality-critical ones such as crafting and such, get turned on on those that actually have dabbling or higher. I intend to restrict workshops by skill-level, some for training, others to produce actual stuffs.

I'll either edit this post to add more, or post again if someone replies in the meantime.. *Buries his nose in DT*

Well, blow me down with a featherwood splint.. Seems our Minty Tradestorm's clean shaven from the top of her head to.. Well, it's probably best not to enquire. Still, it's not entirely inaccurate, as I'm a baldie, and my hirstute face is more the result of laziness than by design. I can live with it.

Especially as RCIX left her with the Dwarven liason trailing after her, and I didn't notice till well into Spring. My kind of girl, keep em on their toes! :D

My turn started in Winter, and it's now late Spring.. Not a lot's happened, but I've been taking screenies randomly.. Oh, and I survived the first Mood of the Fort too.. Who's up for an interim update/status report?
