So I'm drowing in copper (nuggets)
« on: July 01, 2010, 07:22:29 pm »

And I've come to the idea of building a mega-construction. I have about thirty pages of copper nuggets and have struck magma, I'm no where near building the infrastructure for magma smelters yet but I'd like to think this through.

I have also struck around twenty or more veins of copper and I already have one legendary miner.

Here's the main idea, Statue of Inebriety. What do all of you think?

Yeah, we're really short on metal megaconstructions. You can make it bigger if you make it hollow, like Liberty, but I can see the dwarfiness in making it solid, too. Your call.

I still think that the whole fortress should be flooded with magma the moment you try dividing by zero.
This could be a handy way of teaching preschool children mathematics.

I suggest you don't think too much what you build and where. When ever you need something, build it as close as possible to where you need it. that way your fortress will eventually become epic

Enthusiasm certainly isn't low on the other side!

I will make it hollow, the problem is how hollow? With 1X1 halls or 2X2?

Maybe the dwarf should be holding a mug full of booze?

from my experience mega constructions tend to suck up a-lot of materials so i would suggest to start small.

When I assign a bookkeeper, I'll decide on how feasible this actually is.

Well, it would be wise to do the appropriate math ahead of time, but you certainly have the copper to make something.

you could try making a "Beta layout" of it out of stone or wood but not contructing it.
that will give you an idea of how much material you'll need.

This Idea is Why We Need Booze as A Fluid!

The statue's mug totally needs to be filled with real booze. I don't care what it takes. Hack the raws. Whatever. Just... make it so.

Just use magma. I would recommend that the machinery involved in pumping the magma from the dwarf's mouth to the rim of the mug be made of iron, though. Just in case of spillage and/or overflow.

...You are planning to have a built-in magmafall, correct? It's practically required of a statue of a dwarf drinking.

Cool idea, but I was really hoping this thread would involve liquid copper.

Make a massive hollow statue of a dwarf drinking from a beer mug, with magma pouring from the mug into his open mouth. Make this your entrance, and have the magma go down the dwarf's innards and pour around the walkway into a large artificial reservoir of magma. Also, make it so that this can be diverted to come out of his crotch and onto the walkway at the pull of a lever.

Giant copper dwarf drinking a perpetual flow of magma from a beer mug who pisses magma on unwanted visitors, or just for the hell of it.

Yes is what you should be saying/thinking right now.
