Killing Floor
« on: June 30, 2010, 12:50:30 pm »

Well, I know there's been some talking about this in the Steam thread and L4D1/2 threads but I didn't find a thread specifically for it, so: Killing Floor. Zombie apocalypse co-op survival horror FPS game on Steam. I guess they're technically not zombies, but meh.

Anyway, I actually had a question to ask. Buying the game on Steam comes with two guest passes. Does anyone know how long they last once the person you give them to activates them? I was playing with some friends last night and one of them was playing with a guest pass that ran out partway through. The thing is, the pass couldn't have been more than 4 days old and we only played for about 2 hours before the pass died. I know Steam counts download time in their guest passes, but that was the only time she'd play the game and that seems really ridiculous. It's so cheap that we ended up buying it for her on the spot anyway, so I guess it was successful for Steam/Tripwire, but it's still dumb.

I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I think guest passes usually last 24 hours once they are activated...

That was odd... unless she activated the pass, waited 20 hours, then downloaded the game *shrug*

Ah ok. I guess it's possible she activated it the day before, started downloading, realized her internet sucks, downloaded it at work the next day, then played with us.

I own it, but I can't play because I have no home internet.  Grenadiers are awesome.

I've probably put 200+ hours into KF since release, and another 250 in the map editor.

Great game, but you really need people to play it with. And once you've maxed out and are playing suicidal....yeah, we've gotten a little bored with it. But we're waiting for the next update to get back into playing.

There's a way to unlock like 6 more difficulty levels or something. There's difficulty settings between the ones currently already in the game, and then there's like 2 harder than suicidal. I don't know how to get them though.

Odd, in all the time playing KF and reading their forums, I've never read that. I wouldn't be surprised though. The whole game operates on a scale.

I always want to kill people who have the grenade launcher, or rather. I want to kill the people I've played with recently who had the grenade launcher. SMOKE EVERYWHERE. And then the Scrake comes charging out of the smoke and slaughters my ass.

Playing as commando, you can see health bars through the smoke.

I really like this game.  Got it a while back and got the DLC just rcently during the sale just to support the devs while not spending too much on stuff I didn't really want. :p

Unfortunately for the past few months since my comp got infected with something I thought I'd cleaned up KF has had this weird issue where it freezes for several seconds at random.  Oddly I've never died during those times and have sometimes ended up somewhere other than where I was when I froze....

Finally someone else who has this problem.

I fix it by using a different' network card... but that just means that the one I use gets lag spikes like that every so often anyways.

I don't think it has anything to do with the internet connection.  The game freezes, not lags.

Sounds more like a video issue if the game kept on running in the background. Have you tried changing your drivers or something similar?

I actually updated my drivers for a different reason, so yeah.  And of course the game keeps running in the background it's a multiplayer game. :p
