I have questions:
1) How do you control the amount of Z-levels above ground? (need a lot for all the building)
2) How do you find a place with a caves without/with a little water, so it would not interfere with pyramid?

Make it a freakin' Imperator Titan! I mean- err, Battle Toad!

Make it bristle with siege engines and menace with spikes!

ALWAYS MENACE WITH SPIKES

Make a few barracks hanging off the sides supported by single columns that can be destroyed so you have DROP POD INFANTRY

Make MAGMA shoot out its EYES!

Bonus points if you can aim it over a main entrance to your fort!

All in the worldgen parameters. I think LEVEL_ABOVE_GROUND or something controls the former; you can edit both caves, number of caves, water-filled-ness of caves and the distance between caves as well. Might be worth doing some fiddling.

Good enough?

I'm not a very good modeller  :(

How exactly do you get dwarves to construct things like that properly? It seems impossible, at least from what I know, which isn't much. I really don;t get how people build these things.

OK, this will be the  aim:

I'm not sure how I'll model THIS in DF, but hey... Now to actual planning in MSPaint!

Rather than an inverted pyramid, why not have the three-toed toad rest upon a giant lily pad?... In a 'pond' of magma.

(Must resist urge to say "and make it turtles all the way down"...)

Desert fort.

Replace surface with glass.

Impenetrable underground bunker, with every single Dwarf fearing "the next shot".

For extra cool, have an obliterated "ruins" above the fortified bunkerfort.  For double-extra-cool, have obsidian glazing the glass in places, and maybe some pools of still hot lava.

What about.... The Sphinx? Or a Pyramid? Simple, but effective! After all, the Egyptians did it, didn't they? and all they had were slaves and a whole lotta time!

I suggest you don't think too much what you build and where. When ever you need something, build it as close as possible to where you need it. that way your fortress will eventually become epic
Because god knows your duke will demand a kitten silo in his office.

The pyramid (of sorts), and the sphinx (of sorts) are already planned. Now, I'm drawing plans  :D

Omg freaking awesome, that will be my next fort.

Don't forget to post it on DFMA, and 3D pics somewhere else!

As for my toadfort, it's getting a whole lot of time to plan... But I already have rough sketches of outer shell!
Toad will be 100 tiles long, and 56 z-levels tall! DF Designer is really handy (but a bit clumsy)

Scaffolding

So you just make a huge block of up/down stairs, and then just carve your structure out of that by replacing the stairs with walls?

Make sense. Though it seems like all those stair would destroy FPS.

No, you just use stairs in places, where you can't build without them.

And no, stairs do not affect FPS, afaik.
