Game Suggestions (for a crappy computer)
« on: June 29, 2010, 02:47:25 pm »

I have a friend who owns an older laptop, and has never really been a gamer. Recently, however, he has gotten ahold of an old game I had laying around, Sim Themepark. He really enjoys it, but it is not fully supported on Xp and will sometimes not start at all.

Please suggest some good game that would run on an older laptop. (Sim theme park runs a bit laggy, so it cant be any more graphical than that).

Also, As munch as I would love to get him into X-com I don't think he could get into too abstract of a game, so keep that in mind.

This is just me talking now.. And I can't speak for everyone.

But.. Could it run Command And Conquer: Generals?
Because that is one hell of a RTS.

How old of a laptop are we talking?

I'd try Mechwarrior 4 from www.mektek.net, but that might be a bit much.

We are talking about 8 years old, it was top of the line though. It has a P4 in it, and I doubt that they were even making dedicated video cards for laptops back then.

Also, some good games have been suggested, keep it up.

I've played Diablo and Diablo II on my laptop for years, and it sounds like he's got a set-up similar to mine. Better processor though, but that can only help.

Would help to know his spec better though. I dropped a gig of RAM in my machine, and it runs KOTOR and KOTOR II pretty well. Starcraft is an obvious suggestion as well. Any number of Text and Point n Click adventure games.

Any of the above should be easy to purchase, with the possible exception of Diablo since I don't think they include it in the BattleChest anymore. Which is a travesty. :(

I probably shouldn't derail this thread but..
I've never been that interested in the Tiberium Series..
Mind you, I've only played #3.. So.. Am I missing out on anything?

And Free y'say?

Anyway.. Continuing the trend of posting good old games..

Starcraft.
Diablo[II].
Warcraft 3 if it can run it..

And other Blizzard games in general.

I second Warcraft 3, the game is just endless fun, the campaign is huge, and then you have those custom maps... There was a time where I'd only play that. Starcraft is better as an actual rts, it still being played competitively and all.

If he likes roguelikes, there are tons of those, RogueBasin has large list of them.
