It's a town in a Lovecraft novel.

Guy enters a secluded town. Townspeople are really strange. It turns out they're worshipping an Elder God and shit turns crazy.

There was a movie based on it called Dagon, pretty good movie actually.

We should go forward with Abcculatters plan.

Innsmouth plan can be implemented in a way similar to Abacculatters plan. We just need the townspeople to resent the outside world.

So it turns out I only saw the last of Abalcutters posts, and he was describing a plan similar to mine but better.

Years have past, the child is now in his adolescents, or in the 13th year of his pitiful existence.
His father has died now and the towns people have plummeted to a measly 43.
The townsfolk have lost most if not all faith in their gods, the occasional prayer occurs, but the gods rarely if ever intervene, as they are too busy with their own matters...
Paranoia reigns king in this town, no one trusts any other.
The once fertile lands have started to grow barren, only the most resistant of crops still grow here, meaning starvation will start kicking in real soon, that is, unless they can find another way of getting resources...

Through out the years of this childs life you have been whispering suggestions and ideas into the childs mind, making him see the abandonment of the good gods and the state of the once beautiful village all around him. You tell the child of yourself and how you have always been watching, but have been too weak to help, but with the guidance of the others you shall be able to restore this village, of course not in stating that its YOU who's speaking in his head but rather his conscience.

The child now preaches the words of you, the abandonment of the old gods, and persuades some to even come to him so he can heal the sickness, most are suspicious and paranoid, but one person braves up and brings her newborn child to him.
With his touch on the child's head, you start channelling your powers into the newborn, causing all diseases and defects in the child to be fixed and healed. But as a result of this, the newborn child shall grow up to become powerful and strong.
The change is visible and it almost seems that life itself has flown back into the newborn child.
The mother thanks the child vastly, and now that others are convinced you also heal them, some still stay withdrawn from the child and his healing, but they soon quickly succumb to the disease, you make sure of it.

1 year later

The towns population is now 35, with 12 newborns, 4 adolescents, 3 elderly, 9 men, and 7 women.
Excluding the child you inhabit that is.

The population follows the child you inhabit and have him as their leader.
The crops are all failing now, and barely any survive to sustain the population.
You suggest raiding other towns to the child, but he comments that the nearest town is too far away, and by the time they get back with the food, everyone would have died by then.

The town has barely any supplies to make things, only wood and cloth.

----

Other notes:
The land that you have filled with darkness has started becoming and influence on the forest, there are even some places which are almost pitch black, and new creatures start to grow there.
There are rumours in nearby towns that some merchants have even gone missing in these forests, only to be found dead days later with all the flesh stripped from their bones.
But they're just rumours, aren't they?

Would it be possible foor humans to live there if a powerfull entity warded off the evil but made it slowly creep into the villigers minds, corrupting them?
