The kingdoms of Cordova and Astrua have been bitter enemies since the fall of the Roman Empire. In 1186, the infamous 58 years war would begin between these two nations, a war that would kill hundreds. In these years, men would rise and fall from power, as the kingdoms' lack of knights would call in freelances from all across Europe. It is during these years of 1186-1244 that Freelance RTD is held. A time of honor and horror. A time of chivalry and cruelty. A time of total war.

The Cordova-Astrua region is considered economically, potically and socially backwards by the rest of Europe. The small size of the two countries mean that more than half of the knights they can field are made up of freelances. However, since the kingdoms are poor, they had to find other ways to pay these freelances. It is not uncommon at the end of a battle for the freelance to rob the corpses of the dead, allowing the enemy army to escape. Freelances are regularly given land in return for years of good service, and many more die trying to prove themselves worthy.

Stats: You have four stats (Explained later), Agility, Endurance, Intelligence and Chivalry. You have ten points to divide between the four. It is suggested that most of the points be placed in Agility and Endurance, so you don't die in combat.

Equipment: Choose one of the three optional starting weapons (Sword, Axe, Mace). You also get 50 talers to buy any equipment you might want. (You keep the leftover talers) You can sell all of your starting equipment except for your free starting weapon.

Language: You get 6 skill points for language. Highly suggested you put most of it in the language of your starting country/country of birth.

Stats:

Agility:A main stat for fighting. A freelance with higher agility than his opponent can attack more often. Also useful for athletics, horseriding and other skills.
Strength:The other main stat for fighting. It allows you to do more damage, it also means that you take less damage if hit. Also allows you to fight longer before getting tired. Used for other, minor skills.
Intelligence:Obvious stat. Used in any skill that requires brain over brawn. May have some uses in combat. Affects how good your council is, but not how effective you can convince other people with it.
Chivalry:While the concept of chivalry wasn't created yet, the idea is a good term for a stat that is affected by how you act, speak and dress. Affects how you interact with people.

Combat is simple. Roll two d10s, one for each fighter. Add agility, weapon bonuses and skills. The highest one gets to do damage. Damage is done by rolling a d10, adding weapon damage, agility and skills, while subtracting the enemy's armour, endurance and skills. Last one to die wins.

Background; Born to a bowyer,Tiel distinguished himself time and again with his cunning and loyalty, this was proved time and again when it would have been much easier to just turn a blind eye and let something happen. However he was later accused of turning a blind eye to a tax officiel taking money, it was the accuser that did this, but he was of a higher standing and it was Tiel's word against his accusers. Tiel now works for whomever pays him, and his loyalty is now towards the little people that get stepped on time and again, regardless of their country.

Background: The son of a humble and especially pious blacksmith, Gregorio spent most of his childhood as an acolyte in a local monastery.  He performed his duties well, if not exceptionally.  However, at the age of 14, while he was delivering goods to a local farmer, he happened to glance a young woman riding on a horse; the Baron of Bitueriges' daughter.  He returned to the monastery that day, but was consumed by a longing for the lady.  Knowing that such emotion was unbecoming of a monk, he tried to rid himself of love.  Naturally, this made his desire even stronger, and thus he requested leave of the abbot to depart from the monastery.  The abbot granted his request, and Gregorio became a freelance, in the hopes of winning such a name for himself that he may wed the Baron's daughter.
