Flaming Bolt mod- Soon to be released
« on: June 28, 2010, 04:23:48 pm »

Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a mod that will add pseudo-flaming bolts to DF.

Checklist:

new materials- done
reactions- done
testing-in progress

As soon as I find a good fixed temp for the arrow heads, not so hot that it immolates your dwarves, and not so cool that it doesn't do anything, I will post a link. Obviously, this mod may not be of much use outside adventure mode until marksdwarves are fixed.

Would the bolts be able to light objects they hit on fire? If they could it would be very intresting.

My guess, it'll be working fine... for the most part. Certain issues I can think of off the bat.

Y'know... now we're going to have to hire Billy Mays to do all our mod advertising and such. >.<

I have a bad feeling that this'll go horribly right and set all your leather items on fire.

I started making a projectile-based mod....
Then I realized you can't get dwarves to use projectiles properly.

We'll have to wait for Toady to fix ranged weapons. Edit: (In fort mode, I mean)

When that happens. Lighting random things on fire in a battle sounds awesome

Work = depends on the definition of the word.

Yes, its easy to make arrows with a high fixed temp.  No, you really cant carry them as you will eventually die of burns.  Not sure there is a way to isolate the heat effect.

The obvious solution is to make your adventurer's race capable of surviving those temperatures. Of course, the bolts will only ever work on other species.

The resulting party killed 20 dwarves, crippled 2 more and the remaining 9 managed to get along and have a nice party.

To late, I already managed to make Weapons/Siege crap/arrows/bolts that will set things on fire if you add a rare gem called the 'Fire Gem' Of course you have to smooth it though. It has never been so fun to stab a goblin in the artery and watch them set on fire!

I also have some that give a burn damage and cold damage and one that turns them frozen solid!
