Today, Nish, the Doctor, came up to me and requested a few things. First, a hospital. That I understood. And a bedroom stationed next to the hospital. Also understood.
She asked for calcite floors. I told her, regretfully, that we had not discovered any calcite.
Her Room:
And, finally, she asked for a copper short sword. To make a long story short, the final reply from her was "Don't you prefer my opening up your insides with
my favorite material?"
Luckily, later that day we found some tetrahedrite. Now to set up a smithy. Should also smelt some of the iron we found. There's even a good amount of bitumitous coal.
And I was able to put together the doc's room.

Obok approached me today. He said that he was actually here to become the bookeeper.
I'm doing my best to keep myself in check with him. Its just something about him. Like he
knows he's better than all of us...
I was suprised to hear that he wanted to be locked away in case all of us should die. First, I asked him whether he's been eating snow lately (in the most polite tone of voice I could muster), and second, I told him that we were waiting to be picked up by a caravan that I know passes by this time of year. Don't ask how I know.
Well, I told him that in the event of the creation of a more permanent settlement here, I would do all that was in my power to create for him the most self sufficient living pod I could. I also told him to specify one that could be used without outside input, in case anything should happen to the outside dwarfs.

Today at dinner, Urist told the first part of "The Epic of Urist". Only Nish and Obok were absent. Wondering why, I snuck around the camp. In the hospital, I could hear a slight clang. Peering through the peephole in the door, I saw Nish practicing with her sword. Something about the sword seemed to bring vigor to her. Something powerful, I suppose. She is connected to it somehow.
Obok was actually on the top level, overlooking the dark blanket of snow. I didn't approach.
He seemed worried, and examining a twitch in his arm. Why was he here? I mean, he had told stories of granduer, yet here he is in a piss poor outpost in the middle of nowhere.
Deciding it was best not to ask, I went back to the kitchen where the other dwarfs were reveling in out newfound (minor) success.

In the process of creating the copper sword, I had to find fuel. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but we only have about eight logs. One was made into charcoal, and then we took as much bitumitous coal as we could and started making coke. I only hope we never run out of coal, because we can't afford to smelt more wood.
I decided to put the forge in the pocket of copper we found. Its good space.

We are diligently waiting for the caravan to arrive now. Eventually it will pass through this area and spot us. I'm keeping a lookout there at all times now. Soon we can leave this spit of snow and go to the land where we're meant to be. Perhaps we can even return to the fortress.
I eagerly await the caravan that should arrive soon, If I'm not mistaken.
Obok.
