Bah, who needs sunlight? Also, I hate beaches. Actually, it's mostly just the sand and temperature. Maybe a California or Florida beach would be decent. Beaches in the Northwest almost never go above 70 anyway. I don't know the water temperature, but it's really cold. Almost nothing could make me want to go to an Oregon or Washington beach.

Humans need sunlight, 20 minutes a day. We need that there Vitamin D.

What does Vitamin D do?

Vitamin D can be acquired from milk and multivitamins.
The sun is useless.
USELESS!!!

And some fish.
I forgot the fish.
That's why Inuits are so dark, they never developed the pale skin required for effective vitamin D absorption due to their fishy diet.

Now to answer the original question of why we are all here:
We are all here because the Russian intelligence agency paid us to be. All of us. And we are here hoping to glean knowledge of your nuclear secrets by infiltrating Dwarf Fortress and reading legends mode until we discover the scematics hidden within. It may take 10 years of reading, but we are sure they are there somewhere. 8)
I think I've translated it!
1. Get weapons-grade uranium.
2. Put a bunch of it in a small area.
3. Boom.
Simple isn't it?

Well, it's more complicated than that...
First, you must accuire a mountain's worth of pitchblende, and refine it.
Then, you must quantum-stockpile it on a sleeping dragon.
Add a kitten.
Remove the dragon, thus triggering the quantum tile size to shrink to ensure that only one standing kitten may fit. This will crush the stockpled refined pitchblende together as well.
Wait one season. The kitten will have multiplied to the point that it and it's decendants undergo nuclear fusion and explode the universe.
Gen new world. Repeat from start.

Vitamin can be gained from a variety of sources, not just the sun. Vitamin D is not hard to get.

Also, we do not have a choice of whether to be here or not. You volunteered for this social experiment, and can never leave. Wait, that was supposed to be a secret.

I'm here because the humidity in North Carolina is frigging horrible. I think it's pretty bad when it feels like I'm swimming through the air. I also paid my dues by trying to hide from the sun under the dash of my family's boat; which was then out in the middle of a lake. I could actually feel my skin sizzling....

I'm Irish. I can't physically get a tan. The last time I went to the beach I caught fire and fled into the ocean. I was attacked by a dolphin.

My belly has a very clear line where one side tans very well, and the other side either doesn't tan at all, or does very slowly. I know I'm Irish/Russian/German, what could cause that?

It also happens in an indoor tanning bed, so it's not pants (which don't go up to my belly anyway:P ) I just wonder if it could be something else before I jump to genetics.

Wait, since when can't we get tans? I'm not exactly rockin the surfer look, but I've got a healthy brown goin down (if you can see it through the god damn freckles) and I'm like, 60% Irish.

I'd say genetics. It's possible to be partially albino, having areas of your skin that will not tan and remain pretty pale(though nothing like a true albino) no matter what. I have no idea how the science behind it works, but one of my uncles is that way. A patch on one of his arms won't tan.

I'm willing to say either that one side tans a lot faster, or the other side tans slower, and makes a gradient to the rest of my body. It's nowhere near a pasty gamer tan. If it were albinism, would the hair be something other than brown/black?

Your just like me...minus the dolphin attacking and falling into the Ocean parts.
