Anarchists mostly. Basicly the angsty teens of politics. Or at least that's the rioting ones.

Supposedly the G20 is like the Man. The richest nations get together and talk about how rich they are and how to manage the world's economy. People use it as an excuse to burn things and riot.

When George Bush was President of the United States, you guys didn't bitch about the protesters, did you? Why are you bitching now?

People are protesting because they have a beef about some of the leaders at the summit. This is the only time many of these people will ever get a chance to protest in a place those leaders will see.

EDIT:

A small minority are also Maoists and Anarchists.

EDIT2:

And it's a contentious issue because of what the IMF did to third world countries to get us out of recession in the 80s (which is usually defended by saying that the IMF helped those nations out, even though there are entire economies running just to pay off the interest from loans).

I'm pretty sure most of us had things against anarchists burning random shit just to make a statement back then too.

If you're talking about anti-war protests, the anti-war/Bush protests generally didn't have people rioting and burning shit in the US, it was positively tame in comparison to G20 rioting which happens every fucking time the G20 is held.

EDIT: On the plus side, those are some pretty interesting photos.

When people feel shitty they want to riot. The G20 is just a catalyst.

Well, if you're from the western world, then the third world countries are stealing your hard-earned tax money. If you're from a third-world country, the western world is being a money-grubbing bastard who sucks your country dry. If you're from neither, you're probably protesting against the illicit detention of thousands of aliens in western countries.

I don't think very many protesters actually believe in a cause.

There just doing it for the shits and giggles.

There is a difference between a protester and a rioter.

The ability to protest things is what 'Freedom' is all about.

It starts as a protest, grows 20 times and turns into a riot.

I will never cease to be amazed when I see somebody wholeheartedly eschew the foundations that let them live happy, upper working class lives in their nation and throw their support behind a team of bankers who have largely failed to contain a massive economic depression.
