Let me make somthing clear: There is no defeating hell. Even the smallest possible number of demons is far above every other living thing in the world. The glowing pits could be flooded with all the oceans and the great magma sea without filling up. Demons are drown-proof and lava-proof. The obsidian might cap off hell, but that won't kill the demons. Driving the demons to extinction is theoritical at best. They might even be unlimited.

what

Anywho, with my ultralegendary adventurer I only managed to kill 50 or so demons before one of them got a lucky shot, pushed me in the lower body, which then exploded in gore. It was my fault for wearing only masterwork bronze armor, but still, I had a masterwork adamantine sword from the demonic fortress I found on the way.

The thread needs a [SPOILER] tag of some sort, by the way.

I'd imagine a multi-legendary dwarf in full adamantine could survive a while, given enough food and water.

And enough fluffly wamblers.

Demons are limitless in Fortress mode. They continually spawn.

I don't know about Adventure mode, though. If you had a lot of patience and also cheated a lot, you may or may not be able to do it. But, chances are that the moment you start a fortress, more will spawn.

you can skip the fort digging and use Runesmith to just teleport your self into hell(teleporting a test dummy for safe transport into the underworld is a must for making sure you don't blindly fall in to a chasm.) even better if you pull a demon up from the Slade and "player civ + adventure trait max+ Join" them into being your follower.

Let them.

A quote for you to ponder:

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

Wrong. The smallest number of demons is 0, which is possible via custom worldgen setting demon number to 0.

so far the only few ways one could kill off hell would be to cause a hell version of a tantrum spiral but the time it takes for those hard shell creatures to die could mean centuries of waiting for them to off each other.

There's a reason why only dwarves have a relationship screen. They'd be overpowered without it.
