Could someone tell me where most of the battle sounds come from? I'm talking about the ones which have been converted from ACM, with original names like H_SL_CL1.ACM or SW_SWD01.ACM

Unfortunately Google turns up nothing for those, and I can't find any attribution within SoundSense. I'd really like to use them in my own project, but I need to be clear about the license, and hopefully find the original ACMs somewhere too.

What is the size of people's packs folder? Mine is 126mb after using auto update. I recently started playing DF again and I noticed some songs are missing. Were they removed? The winter "Simon Swerwer-koganusan" song isn't there. Also twice I have tried to download the soundpack directly from the SoundSense website, which is listed as being ~270mb, however both times the file is reported broken/corrupted by WINRAR and 7zip. The file i get weighs, you guessed it, 126mb.

I should also mention upon starting the program I get a very long list of "did not find .packs/... ...mp3, ignoring" even though I've updated. And get the same error reported here

I have just checked and uploaded file is indeed 270ish mb... could you try redownloading?

Also, can you tell me how some of the files that are being redownloaded look like? size, duation, etc...

I guess I'll try redownloading again from the SS website. I'll try a different browser.

The files listed on my previous post (quote from couchmonster) are the same exact ones Auto Update is listing in the same order with nothing different. The update takes about a minute, however upon checking the packs folder none of the files it lists seem to be actually downloading.

Could the soundpack have become (partially) corrupted?

Edit/Update:
Okay so the third times a charm. The download from the website worked this time. The file is 272,251kb.

Thanks for this utility it's amazing and the music choices are really awesome. Much love!

Zwei, do you remember what tracks used to be in the soundpack in the early days of SS? I can't seem to find the song in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSX3piF5ww8

So, I don't know why but when I try to load soundsense and update the packs, it doesn't update them. Like it'll load some packs for a little bit, and freeze.

Feature request, if it's practical:  an option for SoundSense to close when it detects DF closing.

It would just make it a little more seamless, especially with the GUI disabled and auto-launching through the LNP - it would run entirely without user interaction.

Seconded, the songs in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgyZsU5df_0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5LjuCxIRJA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSX3piF5ww
from the 2010-to-early-2011 pack are not in the current soundpack anymore. It's not just me either since some youtube comments also point out these songs are missing.

It is practical, but problem is that dwarf fortress does not quit nicely, there is no message in log to detect DF being shut down.

Maybe dfhack would help? Simple message in ss_fix.log would help. I need to investigate.

Does it freeze in middownload? Are there any error messages? Can you get full pack from website?

Something I've noticed is that many of my sounds are garbled: they sound like grating rocks.  Approximately the first 30 seconds of the "spring has arrived" song are just garbled noise, and the lightning sound effect is noticeable as lightning, but sounds terrible.

However, some sounds are just fine.  Rain sounds alright, and once the "spring has arrived" song gets going it sounds fine.

I suspect it's related to the fact that I'm playing on Linux and ALSA is kind of known to suck.  Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Also, just a heads up, but SoundSense 43 won't run on Linux because of soundSense.sh file is a) not executable, and b) written using a dos-style encoding.

If anyone else is having issues, you can run

Code: [Select]
chmod +x soundSense.sh
dos2unix soundSense.sh

and then you can run it without issues.

(dos2unix is a pretty standard package you should be able to get for most/all distros).

Can you try playing sounds directly by some lunix mp3 player - will they be garbled by that as well?

Is it possible to disable some Soundsense announcements? I hate when it tells when an ambush party has arrived to map (it shows message "A vile force of darkness has arrived!), kind of spoils the fun. If there is a way to disable that particular announcement, I would be grateful.
