Bah, everyone knows Czechoslovakia isn't a real country!

Well, it is not. Really, it does not exit. When someone tells you they were there at vaccation, they are lying and trying to cover up reall trip to Jugoslavia of which they are ashamed of.

No offense, but... Why is this thread throwing mud at Yugoslavia now? If I had the privilege to vacation there I would not be ashamed to admit it.

The poor place has been through enough, being split up 5 ways due to decades of discrimination, fighting, ethnic cleansing, and other crimes. I have to respect how their citizens spontaneously marched in peaceful protest to the capital and managed to overthrow their homicidal dictator, Slobodan_Milošević, without the use of violence.

Also, let's not forget that Nikola Tesla, the most prolific inventor in history (more patents than anyone else), was born a Serbian. Much of our modern technology has its roots in his research. Aside form his work in AC, he invented the radio, the wireless remote control, fluorescent lights, microwave technology, and a plethora of other stuff way ahead of his time - some of which is only finding a practical use in the last decade or so. (Believe it or not, Tesla even predicted the rise of text messaging.) At a young age he immigrated to the United States in order to work for and learn from Thomas Edison, whom he had admired. Later, they had a nasty falling out over whether AC or DC methods should be pursued to transmit electricity and they became bitter enemies thereafter.

Anyway... why are we discussing Geography and History here? I thought there was more than enough of that going on in the Colonisation: Year 3000 mod thread.

Sorry, Chzechoslovakia.... and Yugoslavia... and Transylvania.  You are all nice countries, but I am confused.  Are Chzechoslovakia and Yugoslavia the same place?  I am ashamed that I don't know my European countries very well.

It's spelled Czechoslovakia and it is/was entirely separate from (the area formerly known as) Yugoslavia. A lot can be learned from Wikipedia:
Quote
In 1992, because of growing nationalist tensions, Czechoslovakia was peacefully dissolved by parliament. On 1 January 1993 it formally separated into two completely independent countries: the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

(Point of joke is that both are ex-countries that no longer exist, being dissolved back to orginial separate countries/rejoined few times.)

But enough of this i guess.

SoundSense has recently come up as a topic of discussion on the Lazy Newb Pack thread:

I think this should be added. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=60287.0
Its already listed in "Additional Downloads" along with installation instructions. It's not included because it would add an extra 100mb or so to the download.
Actually... zwei has really trimmed down the program portion of SoundSense and the package now takes up slightly over 500 Kilobytes. It's the separate download of the Sound Pack which is a whopping 135 Megabytes! (And like some monster B movie series, it's growing with every new release!)

zwei and others have discussed the idea of asking you if the program portion of SoundSense could be included in LNP. It would not make the LNP package much larger, while it would save a lot of SoundSense users (particularly newbies) some installation headaches. Of course, they would still need to download and install the Sound Pack, but that part of installation is the easy part.

Personally, I am divided on the issue. Not all LNP users will bother to download the Sound Pack or use SoundSense. And I think there are ways of simplifying the installation without having it included in LNP.
...But I do see their point.
We could do that. Next release though, as it's just tedious to do 2 versions the same week.

So, it seems that the LNP maintainers are interested in including the program portion of SoundSense soon. Question is: Will SoundSense require updating for 31.19? Or is it already 100% compatible with .19+ ?

After thorough testing, I can confirm the current version of SoundSense as of this post is 100% compatible.  No bugs or oddities.

Yes, as long as log formats stays the same, ss is supposed to be forward (and backward) compatible.

I just came across this yesterday, and I must say it is absolutely brilliant. Adding of sound effects and music has really improved my experience in Adventure mode. I have yet to use it in Fortress mode, but the added immersion is amazing.

Thank you for this.

There's a new "sting by bee" alert. Not sure what other new alerts are in, but that one would be awesome to have a sound for.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

This is awesome.  Just tried it out for the first time.  I accidentally stopped the music playing though (I guess that's a delete button or something?) and it's not on the list anymore.  How can I get it back?

red [] button clears current sound but does not disable it: you can manually restart it later (Sound Configuration tab, you can find it later) and ss will catch on later when seasons change without your intervention.

Speaker button mutes it; you can click it again to unmute.

Bees need sound most definitelly! It could be simple buzz SFX for now, but dwarfy comments would be handy i guess :).

As for other messages ... i would like to point you missingMessages.cmd which scans log for messages ss does not understand at all (it will contain ton of adventure mode combat messages). People are encouraged to post whatever weird thing they find there....
