The whole place is lifeless for miles, i tried throwing snow but in won't help.

If the water in teh area thaws there is a surefire method.
Lure it onto a pond/river before it thaws.
BAM - it thaws, they're in the water.
then get to shore without getting murdered.
Then wait for it to freeze again.
Collect statue from bottom of river.
profit!

This fight went on for 2 days till it ried to escape, but it clinged on to me so i got 2 map tiles away and started igniting trees, I finally died of thirst.

I would suggest making an adamantine colossus with blade-arms and using that to kill it.

Yes. I could not kil my bronze gollems let alone the colossus.(I made the golems. smaller version of the collosus). You should be able to wrestle it and break its body parts. An axe is good for slicing the body parts off and is the only way you can KILL it but a hammer wil make its WND screen go ALL red.

after i jacked a maul from the humans to go kill my collosus i managed to land red-wound blows..although be warned once that happens the collosus gets pissed i vaguely recall reading that the collosus grabbed my hip, crushing the bone, then threw me at least 10 spaces, then died :|

I've found that a masterwork adamantine two-handed sword is big enough to cut off a bronze colossus's head; a masterwork adamantine long sword is only enough to cut off the arms and feet (not legs). Good luck finding one, though...
