Space Empires V Forum Game - Again.
« on: June 26, 2010, 02:42:14 pm »

Space Empires V is a fun little game, especially when the community is involved in it. I did a let’s play thing with a ton of player involvement last summer, so I thought I would try and run one this summer, too. The problem with the last one is that there was nothing to fight.

In the edition, that problem has been addressed. Quite a bit.

There are five human empires to start things off and there are an unspecified number of alien races out in the galaxy, too. The community can take part as two of these human races, and you get to vote which two of the five we’ll play as. As these two empires meet the other ones, they’ll become playable.

Pictures will be hosted on tinypic. Sorry. It’s just way more convenient for me, and it’ll increase the speed of the updates, so, you know, I can get them out with some frequency. This is sorta to counterbalance the fact that I have to run anywhere from 12-20 empires, roughly. Without abandoning them or getting slack with any of them. Post the names of the two empires you vote for in BOLD. Like this.
----------------------------------
The first human empire is "Life co." Obviously, it is a corporate society, focused on resource gathering and wealth creation. So named because the company spans the entire home planet, and controls every aspect of the inhabitant's lives. You are born, work, and die on company property, for the company.

The New Terra Democracy is the fairly standard human empire. You know. Democracy is cool and stuff. Also mostly prone to resource and wealth acquisition, but a little more focused on defense than Life co. Additionally, they have cooler looking ships. On the other hand, they are pretty boring. Basically the all-around, no specialties kinda race.

Then there is the Post-Earth Party. The party controls the entire planet and pretends to play one half against the other. If you've ever read 1984, you have an idea what the society resembles. However, players will be the higher echelons of society. They're even more militarized than the NTD, but less resource-happy.

The Triumphants are technically not human. They've survived on a floating gas giant colony and have adapted, through genetic engineering, to breathe the inhospitable atmosphere. The Triumphant society is that of raiders, pirate-types, and warlords. The massive colony is divided into six layers, with the inhabitants trying the fight up the colony. At the top is the Queen, who takes a sort of god-emperor role.

Lastly is the Generational Commonwealth. Stiff upper lip, chaps, because they're basically British-Empire wannabees. They have a pretty cool looking flag, a heavily expansionist attitude, and tea. Nobody can resist them.

The Triumphant system:

Current players:
RAM, a Warlord.

If you wish to play as a Triumphant, there are two options available at the moment. Warlord, or Forgemaster.

A warlord represents the fighting elite of the Triumphants, a man or woman highly skilled in leadership and bloodshed, but lacking in the scientific kinds of knowledge. Warlords will be given one ship to start with, and a small detail of ground troops. There are two kinds of ships that a warlord can take at the moment. The first is a Ripper. It is a fast scout-ship equipped with a small detail of armaments and is designed for ship-to-ship combat. The second is a Buccaneer. The Buccaneer is a cargo ship with troop-landing capability and is thus able to invade stations on the ground and take them over, in addition to being able to haul things. The trade-off is that it is pretty much incapable of defending itself because it only has a puny little D.U. cannon. As a warlord inflicts damage on the enemies of the Triumphants, they will earn more ships and equipment.

Forgemasters are the taskmasters of a forge. They control both the work queue and the research input from their forge. They are skilled in Leadership and Science, but lack any talent for bloodshed. One Forgemaster is assigned to a Forge Device (Basically a colony ship) and then runs a colony. This includes deciding what sort of fabricators and vats to equip the forge with, and also what sort of defenses and ships that the forge will construct. Forgemasters may not send ships out raiding, but may construct them for purely defensive purposes. They must gift ships to a warlord and cut some sort of deal if they want any spoils.

We are Triumphant. With a capital T. All you miserable little factions, all you struggling little warlords, you all pay homage to the Queen now. While you still fight amongst yourselves like the vermin that you are, Hellforge is united like it has never been before. It’s ancient factories, fabricators and vats run for one common purpose.

I suppose, weakling, that you are not entirely educated about what Hellforge is. Hellforge is our home. Floating through the atmosphere of Hell, we inhabit an ancient station built by whoever came here before us. The station was abandoned when our ancestors came here. Slowly, as our generations grew and explored the massive station, we came to understand how it functions, how it works. We used the old genetics vats to regrow ourselves, to make us more suited to our new home, the toxic atmosphere, the harsh gravity. And then we discovered how to work the fabricators. We discovered how to manufacture heat lances, and splinter guns. This was followed by hundreds, possibly a thousand years of station-wide warfare. And now a victor has emerged.

This is the system in which we live. The fabricators are working to construct a colony device. This device has the means with which to construct another station like Hellforge. Soon, we will have spread across the system, with new fabricators and vats, and, under our glorious queen, we will work our way towards a glorious, rich and strong empire.

All right, lords. This is the research plan that we have drawn up. As you can see, we plan to learn how to get the most out of our fabricators, learn how to create a colony device that will work on a rock planet, and a smattering of military technology. In addition, we’re also putting a little bit into medical research, so that if we encounter something less than agreeable with our immune systems it won’t make us all die out. If you have any suggestions, or wish to alter this plan, the queen is willing to hear your thoughts.

I have edited old posts with the new updates. Also, check the second post. It contains details on the Triumphant empire, and how to get involved in the game. I will fiddle with the post as necessary to reflect the current state of the Triumphant empire, and expand the section as the situation warrants.

Also, just so everyone's aware ahead of time, I am receptive to PMs. So, if you want to plant bombs on another chap's forge for some reason you should PM me about it instead of blabbing it all over the forum. I will keep a list of players inside the faction they are associated with.

I say send that first colony ship down the closest warp and then to the best habitable planet, then get a couple light scout ships going and send them out the other three.  One colony a system until we get blocked out, then start filling in the systems starting next to the most hostile.

I haven't played V- do fighters rock the world in the early game like they do in IV?

There is no guarantee of a habitable planet in the next system though, and we have one in-system which has a breathable atmosphere. I say we colonize it while we build 2-3 scouts to have survey the next systems.

Imageshack allows batch-uploads. I find it easier, but suit yourself.
