Each of you appear in a well-lit space. It is an unadorned grey cube 100 meters to a side. The walls, floor, and ceiling are lined with a 1 meter yellow grid.

The grid lines pulse in time with a voice, the first voice you hear. It is mechanical, synthesized, cold, logical. Devoid of emotion.

A bordered window appears in the air before you, labeled "Unknown Event - 2E617"

Within the window, a short video clip plays on a loop. There is no audio.

The video depicts a field of stars. At first you wonder what exactly the point is, then you notice a star winks out.

Then another.

And another.

Rapidly, every star in a certain region of the starfield wink out until there is nothing but darkness there.

The time index indicates that this has taken place over the course of six days.

Seeing this time code, you realize you intuitively understand what a day is, you all have basic knowledge relating to planetary bodies and a vague reference to some sort of calendar. It contains 12 months, each month having 30 days, each day sliced into 24 hours, each hour sliced into 60 minutes, each minute into 60 seconds, etc.
