The Rebellion - The Fall of an Empire
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:21:59 pm »

The fires of change have spread even to the furthest reaches of this great Empire, filling even it's heart with riots and bloodshed.
The heirless Emperor sits alone in his palace, oblivious to the state of the world. The once-powerful Noble houses are now dying remnants of the Empire's past glory, lacking any influence on the government and not being able to pay the upkeep of their military.
The government itself is corrupt and incompetent to the extreme. The upper classes as a whole have decided to live in their fantasies and past might, ignoring the masses.
The rich merchant barons of the south are independent in all but name, but the throne cannot match them in military might anymore.
The Empire's borders are threatened by the Theocracy in the west and the north, and it is only a matter of time before they launch an attack.

In the colonies across the sea, the situation goes way past the point of no return. The rebel hordes take the streets, while the government's troops
close down the gates of the palaces and set up makeshift barricades... only time will tell which side is victorious.

Every man and woman asks themselves the same question... are you a rebel or a loyalist?

(Sorry, female rebel it is.)

'Kraoht! Take this!' a familiar voice calls from behind, and you turn just in time to catch something he's throwing. The man is Harnen, the leader of the city's resistance movement. He is rumoured to be the heir of one of the continental noble Houses, but you don't think that's very likely. He looks like any other colonist living in city, with short, brown hair and a sharp, gaunt face.
He beckons you to follow and disappears into the night, making his way towards the general direction of the docks.

The thrown item is revealed to be a standard militia pistol, heavy but reliable. You have a feeling you're going to need it later on.

You pull your coat tighter around you, trying to escape the cold winter air, and follow Harnen up the street. Pillars of smoke are beginning to arise all across the city, and the bark of firearms comes from all around you. Shouts of pain and anger fill the air.
You make your way up the to the top of the hill, joining Harnen in watching the chaotic mess that has overtaken the docks. The Empire ships in harbor are both on fire, and you're pretty sure the smaller one is sinking. Harnen curses.

' I wanted those ships intact. I swear, if they don't take any ships at Salv, I'm going to hang all of these idiots.' He shakes his head a little.
' Come on. We'll see if we can still salvage anything.'

You race down the hill together, and the sound of gunfire becomes much more apparent. Looks like the crew of those ships are still fighting.
Also, something that sounds like... horses? The loyalists must've brought their mounted militia in. Still, you've got strenght in numbers, and that should be enough.

The battle is raging all across the docks, but Harnen most likely wants you to help him get through to the ships. Taking out the cavalry would also tip the balance in your favour. The safest way would probably be to head for one of the sturdy two-storey houses and shoot from their safety.

What will you do?

Cavalry doesn't work if we've got the high ground.

To the rooftops.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.
