Streak in the middle of the battlefield, screaming at the top of our lungs

Ah Christ, I couldn't resist.

But really, going to the roofs, ready to shoot rebel scum is good.

So I guess this is compensation for The Invasion? Aw.

What, I can't start new games? >_>
Seriously though, both endings I had in mind sucked and that's that.
----

You hurry inside the nearest building and go all the way to the rooftops, rushing past a few surprised rebels. The rooftop gives you a clear view of the battle. It's a shame the buildings are spaced so far apart, though. You can't really jump from one to another.
The loyalist defenders are firing from the deck of the larger ship and in a few two-line formations scattered around. The cavalry is driving into the rebel horde from the side, though their charge seems to have been slowed down considerably.

Not really wanting to waste your ammo, you pick up some loose tiles from the roof and look for targets.
You throw your first tile - and it hits the ground in front of your target. Nevertheless, you try again, this time hitting the loyalist rifleman squarely in the chest.

The next tile hits as well, but the cavalryman you aimed for gets right back up. The fourth tile hits a rebel instead.
Damn, throwing tiles is harder than you thought. You switch to your pistol, hoping that practicing you've been doing with your brothers will pay off.

The first shot does indeed hit, and throws another horseman off his horse, right into the middle of the rebel horde. They quickly tear him apart.
You take aim again and fire, hitting one of the loyalist defenders at the ship. You're pretty sure that's Harnen leading the attack on-board there.
Even with your efforts, it doesn't look like the cavalry charge is being turned back. In fact, quite a lot of rebels are already fleeing the scene, leaving a sea of thrown-away weapons behind them.

You take a tile in your hand again and throw, with the horsemen much nearer now. Two horsemen are hit, but only the second one seems to be hurt.
It seems Harnen has fared much better in his task, though. The larger ship's deck looks empty of loyalists.
The cavalry is closing in, and will cut off Harnen's only avenue of escape if they push past.

What will you do?

(Throwing more tiles is always an option, you hero you. The cavalry couldn't even touch you there. >_>)

Alright, see if we can't try and warn our buddy, and try to get some others to follow us as well.

You think about trying to warn Harnen, but seems like he's already realized the situation. You run down the stairs and out to the street, right in the way of fleeing rebels. Someone crashes onto you and throws you on your back. Before you can react, he's already gone, but has left another pistol behind.
You scavenge it for ammo before moving on. More men come running towards you, but you raise your pistol towards them and bellow them to stop.
You convince them to turn back at gunpoint. They will probably get out of there again the first chance they got, but there's nothing you can do.

You move on into the rebel swarm. Spooking the horses would deal with the horsemen with one blow, but these are trained warhorses, and nothing short of explosives would work. You decide on just shooting at them instead.

Two go down quickly, their riders thrown to the ground by the force of the shots. Before you can take down a third, a horseman cuts his way through the crowd and charges at you. You reload as quickly as you can, and fire - hitting the horseman in the shoulder and bringing him down from his steed, which continue on it's way, forcing you to throw yourself to the ground to get away from it.

You get up at the same time as the rider of the horse, who doesn't seem to be awfully bothered about his wound.
Before he can attack, however, you finish him off with a shot to the head. You get back to shooting, and manage to take down another horse before you run out of ammo.

When you fire your last shot, the battle is already ending.

The remains of the cavalry turn back to flee, but they leave a sea of rebel bodies in their wake. It's still a 'victory', you guess.

Harnen leaves a few men to the ship and leads the rest of you up towards the palace. The battle there is still raging, and it appears large sections of the palace are on fire or even burned down piles of rubble.
When you arrive, a volley of gunfire rips through your ranks. Loyalist rifleman fire from the palace's windows, it's hilltop position allowing them to keep the attacking rebels pinned down. However, the gates are wide open and it appears the rebels have already made it inside. You rush up the hill and to the doors, where your allies get inside straight away and disappear into the labyrinthe complex that is the palace.

How will you proceed?

Just as an aside, but it would be hilarious if Roland appeared in the story at a later date.

We should probably get into cover immediately. Then, we should go into the noble's mansion and loot it for artifacts that might have plot- or empire-related significance that can be used to inspire the rebellion. Also, make sure that we always have meatshields fellow freedom-fighters nearby.

Nah, we should look for a rifle, or at least more ammo for our pistol.

Armor would be good too.

The entrance hall is littered with bodies and fallen equipment. You scavenge as much ammo as you can find, and take a rifle, even though you've never shot with one and it's quite low on bullets.
Then you move up the stairs and began exploring. You hear sobbing behind one door and open it to find a pair of servants who look even more terrified when they see you.
You tell them they are free to go but they try to back even further away. Loyalist slaves, acting as the Governor's servants. Pathetic.

Another door reveals another servant, trying and failing to hide in the darkness of the room. Before you can say anything, the servant screams 'For the Empire!' and runs at you, a knife in his hand. When he's close enough, you grab his arm, bend it behind him and throw him against the wall. And again. And again.
Once you're sure he's out, you take the knife and pocket it.

Moving up to the third floor, you are joined by more rebels, who take point and lead you to a pair of massive, highly-ornamented doors. The Governor's quarters.
A kick and they're open.

You enter the dimly-lit room weapons ready, but it soon becomes apparent the Governor and his family is long gone. The rooms are a mess though. A mountain of paperwork covers the desk in the corner, while one of the chairs is knocked over and the bed looks like it's been hit by a hurricane.
While your fellow rebels vandalize the room even more, you walk over to the desk and take a look at the papers. While most of it is useless, you find a few gems in there.
The first one is a letter to the Governor;

My Lord,

It is a sad time when measures such as this have to be used, but I fear we may not have much time. My men inform me the so-called 'resistance' is rising in numbers every day, and it is only a matter of time this movement of theirs mobilizes. The tunnels have been finished, and the needed modifications to your quarters will soon be so as well.
I advise you to inform H. and R. about this. They will understand. Protecting Your Highness is our highest priority now, and I have taken the liberty of sending a platoon of my own personal troops to defend you and your family.

  - Knight-Commander Haurken, 4th Colonial Rifles

The second is a pile of maps and lists showing loyalist troop positions and current strenght. Definitely worth showing to Harnen.

The palace is far from safe, as proved by the gunfire that erupts in the corridor behind you. Your allies turn towards the doors and head for cover, guns ready.

How will you proceed?

You drop behind the desk as the loyalists burst in. Your allies open fire, but you're not sure if anyone goes down. These invaders have rifles; slow, ugly things, but very effective. Seeing your face rise up above the desk for a moment, a loyalist fires - and half of the desk disappears in an explosion of wooden shards and paper.
A piece of the desk cuts through your shoulder, but you barely feel it.
The letter and the maps are still in your coat, fortunately.

You return fire with your pistol, taking down a loyalist - unfortunately, not the one that shot at you. The rifle barks again, leaving a gaping hole in the wall behind you.
Your allies are far from done, though. Two pistols fire, and even though both miss, the loyalist turns away from you.
You take aim and fire, this time scoring a perfect headshot. The two remaining rebels fire again, and this time one of the loyalists goes down. The three remaining invaders all rush to cover, one coming straight your way, apparently not realizing you're still alive. Before he can fix that, you jump out from behind the desk and sink the servant's knife into the loyalist's chest. The surprise on his face doesn't last long, his hands attempting to raise the rifle with it's bayonet, but neither does his life.

As you pull the knife out, you realize the firefight is over, the two last loyalists lying in pools of their own blood on the floor.

You don't waste anymore time, and set out to find Harnen. The two rebels follow you. As you step out of the Governor's quarters, you find the third floor of the palace has turned back into a warzone. Loyalist troops stand near the stairs, firing down at rebels on the lower floors. There's nearly a dozen of them, though they haven't noticed you yet. More gunfire comes from what you think are the kitchens, but what's more important, you hear Harnen's voice.
The kitchen doors are behind the loyalists, but you think you could sneak past without them noticing. They're standing away from you, though, and you might be able to take on them with the help of the two rebels.

How will you proceed?

Kill the first with our knife, and the other with our pistol.

Also, stock up on ammo and make sure our buddies have rifles.
