Since you just learned that, allow me to point out that garbage dumps allow you to stack an infinite amount of items in one space. I generally set my dump zone to be near my stonecrafter, mason workshop, and mechanics workshop. That way I can order roomfulls of stone to be dumped and the dwarves will deposit it right next to the buildings that require it. In order to use the stone once it's dumped, you will have to un-forbid them with d-b-c, but it's a minor hassle and can save your dwarves some time.
