I'll just restate that RPing on gibbed servers is hilarious, though often you'll also find a good sport who will rp along with you. This 'gibbed does no RP' statement is as off as 'BS12 is no fun because too heavy on RP'. It's just easier for me to play a crazy assistant that communes with the space owls on Gibbed.
Maybe easier, because they may actually believe you on G4.  :P

Uhh... where can I find the server?  Is it in the forum?  I checked the link to the forums on the first page.  For some reason, I can't connect to the server the forum links to.  I can get on Gibbed servers though, am I missing something?

For whatever reason, the server went down. I was playing as a security officer when it happened. Some weird ghosty stuff was going on, like some guys getting locked in the meeting room and being beaten by some invisible guy and random lights getting smashed.

Yeah. I agree with him too. I used to play BS12, but the admins (specifically Apples, sorry.) got a bit prickly and hostile towards criticism or even questioning in any form; which kinda turned me off SS13.

That's uh...kinda bullshit. I don't particularly see why it's a turn off that people defend something they're invested in. There's always been a certain edge when the people doing the questioning and the criticizing are either morons or quite clearly attempting to start an argument. Either way that attitude's basically gone now, unless you for some reason decided that my replying os being "hostile and prickly" in which case well okay but uh that's not what the point of a forum is. I'd suggest giving us another look anyway, I can still be a cunt sometimes but I'm working on it, usually only happens if I'm bored or feeling terrible (headache etc) ((I HAVE ONE OF THOSE NOW WOO)) but uh yeah. I think in a lot of cases BS12 can appear to be kinda hostile to anything that isn't "aligned" with the main view of the server as a whole, which is pretty sad because well, nothing changes that way, but we have a super mod team and more super cool admins these days that I think are nice people.

In reply to your thing about traitors/antagonists not being able to do anything in case it disturbed the precious RP's, we actually had a discussion a while back and now antagonists have basically no bars. Apparently, anyway.

If someone doesn't appear to be a nice person it's probably just a thing they're unaware of, or maybe they just be a dick and then are actually a nice person 1 to 1 etc.

Ah, good. Sorry then, again, I haven't actually played SS13 in a long time. Come to think about it though, I did hear a lot of really good things about BS12 in the time I was away... Maybe I'll start playing SS13 again some time.

I can't tell just how strict BS12 may have been, but it's pretty OK for my standards. So far, my characters included a mentally meta-stable scientists of all trades (mainly Virologist or Chemist, so guess...), an old guy with a pseudo-Scottish accent, love for booze and a cigarette butt glued to his lips who got the position of a Cook since there was no one else to take it, and a chap called Lord (by his parents who were enthusiastic, albeit clueless about Earth history).

So yeah, a bit of oddness is alright on BS12. That said, I think the scientist, Clara Lineman, is likely the most normal AND the most sociopathic of all of them. She actually tried to pull an Alex Mercer (from Prototype) on the station, attempting to release a mix of viruses on being captured, yet you wouldn't notice it in a regular conversation.

I've played SS13 on and off... and while I spent most of my time on BS12, I'd say it's by far the most laid back of the servers I've tried.

No, it's not going to be all wackiness all the time and an evac every 15 minutes, like some servers, but for those of us actually interested in trying (and sometimes failing) to keep a station functioning, it's a great experience. I rarely even turn traitor on for myself... and I've had a lot of fun, even as Janitor or unassigned Assistant.

I can't say I'm completely happy with it either, but as long as you're not expecting to be able to openly grief without a good reason, (and I'd say that's a good thing) then it's a fun time.

I've gotta check out BS12 next time I'm on; I've never actually been on it yet.  From what you guys are saying, it's a heavy-RP server that very likely contains awesomeness sometimes.  Cool.

People say "heavy RP" but you don't even really have to try very hard... just pretend you're actually doing the job. You don't HAVE to come up with a whole backstory and character personality to play with... just be yourself... as an employee of a space station.

Uhh... I just played a little bit, and to me, it's heavy RP.  There's bureaucracy, and paper trails and shit!

Seriously, was not expecting that in the least.

Well, I just had a decently fun round. I was a traitor security guard and I had to steal the AI, though I never got a good opening to do that. What was really awesome, though, was the time when I planted a power sink in the incinerator and I had to report to the scene of my own crime. I was really lucky that I never technically touched the power sink, or else I would've been caught almost immediately. I still have no idea how someone in security spotted that power sink.

I'm still a little disappointed that Calvin Spiff has never been a detective. He's a professional in forensics, and hasn't ever gotten the chance to make use of it.

Don't power sinks cause fingerprint scanners to explode if they scan one?

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

I honestly think we at BS12 can be a little intimidating, because a lot of jobs have kinda...not "official" but certainly recognised procedures and stuff, and if you happen to miss them because they're not official it can be sorta hard to work out what the fuck is going on. I'd say in the case of HEAVY RP though that it, oddly enough, depends a lot on who you happen to be playing with. Although I've not played in a while I can certainly remember rounds where all I've really done is my job, maybe gone to the bar, etc. That can change if you have a "good roleplayer" as your Head, because then you're sorta dragged (not a bad thing by any means) into their sorta gravity well of RP and then it can get a little heavy. Unfortunately that means that if you don't like heavy RP your best bet is to not play on BS12, because although it's viable to just do your job and not really interact, that's not going to get you the most fun.

At the end of the day though, different people like different things. I don't hold it against people if they dislike BS12, I only have a "problem" with that if it's discouraging other people giving us a go.

Last time I accidentally released plasma as a scientist, the RD set me on fire. While screaming insults at me.
