Being a janitor could be dull every once in awhile, but sometimes, we get lucky breaks.
[CAUTION: Tropes ahead]I mean, sure, we don't have much to do at the start, checking lightbulbs and changing them, asking around for work, paging sections of the station for work, using our PDAs for similar reasons, looking for random bits of litter, mopping up the occasional blood stain, graffiti, cult symbols; but sometimes we tend to be the front line investigators of certain situations. Once in awhile, we also tend to get so wrapped up in our work, we also tend to use some random crap we collected to make our way around restricted areas, and find a random copy of King's Quest XVII with a nasty virus on it to erase from the AI.
Naturally, if there is a traitor or some crazy killing force running amok the station, we can always
buy everyone some time, or snag ourselves the traitor's weapon, or surprise attack them by merely
mopping the floor.
Don't underestimate us janitors. We're dedicated to
clearing out the trash, and
cleaning up the place. Some of us may have background in some other talents, or enough to provide some input. We just decide to be janitors because we're just
really lazy or
dis-motivated to make something better of ourselves. One thing's for certain, this job is surprisingly fun at times; especially when you work somewhere like SS13.
I don't know about anyone else, but I like this role. Plenty of room for variety, RP'ing and situationally. About as varied as security, but not as restricting either, and people look past you like an assistant. I see nothing wrong with that; little do they know, I could have their lunch (or more
important good) in my backpack as I pass by them after cleaning their quarters. Oh yeah, and as far as I know, we of the Custodial Legion of Environmental Aid for Nanotrasen seem to have a surprisingly high survival rate.
NOTE:
I seem to reliably survive alot as a freaking janitor. I've hit
Roger Wilco levels of blind luck and problem solving. I mean, most recently, I evaded aliens, and escaped with a suspicious briefcase on me without a second glance from anybody. Although having a xeno welcome me at the homebase post-escape was a rather disturbing end. Fortunately, the round technically ended before my fate was sealed. Since he was still armed with a rather heavy (locked) briefcase, I think he could've taken the xeno on, and jettisoned him out of the airlock the traditional way.
