Just a quick note on the name Penis Morgan: Not only is it par for the course on gibbed servers, but it was actually a name randomly generated for me. There was no way I wouldn't keep it. In fact, I've used it so often for other things that sometimes I think Penis is a normal name and wonder why people always snicker.

Getting my rum and cokes ready for a few sessions of SS13 tonight, brahs.

So...
What exactly IS Spacestation 13?

The OP doesn't tell much about it, rather than what you need to run it.

It's a top down space-station simulator shackled with horrible lag and clunky controls. Once you get past that, it's utterly amazing.

There's a space station with all the various departments and jobs needed to keep it running sch as quartermasters laboring in the cargo bay, doctors bringing the sick to medbay, and a security department with a staff of officers. They try to keep the station in working order.

The actual challenge greatly varies: ranging from a blob monster eating the station, to changelings that stealthfully absorb and assume the identity of crewmen, to a revolution trying to overthrow the tyranny of the captain, to a meteor storm, to a direct assault by 6 well armed syndicate commandos.

There are bots in the form of things like monkeys used for experimentation and zombies, but for the most part every person or android you encounter is controlled by a human roleplayer.

Games are played in rounds, generally ranging in time from 30 minutes to an hour. There's a lot of varience in between servers, as they mostly use different code and promote different playstyles.

Because of the crappiness of BYOND there have been many remake atempts, but the only one I'd wager on is located at http://spacestation13.com/. Keep in midn that there's a big learning curve, and you should read up on everything before you dive in. I hope this post makes sense.

From ten minutes to about six hours. You never know bullshit you'll have to put up with either.

Unless you're on gibbed, then the 30min to an hour thing holds true.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Yeah, baystation 12 regularly goes four to six hours. One particularly long one was eight.

Six hour long BS12 RP because the tater decided to dive out an airlock is tiring, to say the least.

It definitely helps you work on your situational attitude, though.

Gibbed usually has people whining about round length at the hour mark. Annoying, but at least there's rapid change. I've seen some rounds last for only a couple minutes, though completely due to the wizard's or syndicate's lack of any skill. I want to give BS12 a shot but it seems to restricting after Gibbed. I like not having to worry too much about accidentally doing something I shouldn't have. The round length is attractive though.

I absolutely adored playing this to death for a week, learning different professions, roleplaying, etc, but ultimately I felt the need for continuity and there was none, so I kind of stopped. Also, LAAAG.

tg station has no sense of humor, banned for overkill (traitor, took out the target, then the station) : I

Are you sure it was the /tg server?

Traitors can do anything they please (short of forced ERP)
Murderboners are a common thing, although if you do them a lot you'll recieve a mixture of awe and disdain from the playerbase
Mass murder which is totally beyond any possible logic regarding your objectives violates the don't be a dick rule. Mass murder can certainly be justified in terms of getting the shuttle called or staying alive. I'm guessing that his actions were just extremely dickish.

My point was that on /tg servers round antags are NOT bound by the rules, they can do what ever they want.

So either the ThtblovesDF was on a different server (maybe /vg - I don't go there so I don't know their ruleset), wasn't actually a round antag, or there is an admin that needs a serious talking to.

As long as you don't meta, IC in OOC, play to win, murderboner, or griff, you'll be fine.

If you screw up really badly, like releasing lord singulo because you accidentally pushed the CE into the containment field, just RP your character having a mental breakdown and you'll be fine. Just don't use it as an excuse to griff.

Remember that you can fight people if it's part of an antag objective or in self defense. Try not to kill people, though. They don't like that.

Unless of course it's your objective to kill them. And maybe if they saw you doing illicit stuff. In that case, feel free to satisfy your murderboner. And cut off their heads while you're at it. It's an objective anyway, and even if it's not you wouldn't want your target be cloned.
