Well, there's blood all over medbay, the lawyer wants to be borged, half the staff is catatonic, and there's a disemboweled body in genetics. Not to mention the engineers asking me to look after their wills, so yea. Pretty normal

And yet in extended the most excitement we had was a meteor swarm taking out the access and escape arms.  It was a good chance to brush up on my construction skills though.

Well, extended can be uneventful especially with the strict rules (which is the only real drawback to what would normally be a fun mode) but secret or traitor modes on a Wednesday can get pretty hectic as people struggle to fuck stuff up, with in rp context, before having to go (presumably for homework or work)

what I don't really like about extended is that at the first minor issue the shuttle are called and ship abandoned.

granted, there is the problem that one the station gets leaky it's quite impossible to fix due the current plumbing layout, but I'd like just once to see a meteor swarm handled by everyone suiting up, bracing at center, fixing the hull, pumping the air and have a beer instead of 'omgshuttletnxbyegg'

Pretty much this.  Extended can be a lot of fun if you like to RP, but without that, there's not a lot to it, so people tend to dislike it.  I've noticed it seems to work best when an admin is on and throws stuff at the players every so often to keep them on their toes.

It's not that extended is fun if you like RP, it's that the exciting rp typical of ss13 arises as a result of there being an antagonist. Without any kind of antagonist, the RP is very weak, and without conflict there's little story.

there are plenty of non player antagonists: meteors, viruses, player errors.

the problem is not lacking of challenge in extended, but lacking of will to fix up the mess thereafter.

even having the neons broken is a valid reason to abandon station and be done with the turn!
